Day 1

Transfer by Train from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi NP

Transfer by Train from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi NP

We'll arrange for your pickup from either your hotel in Dar es Salaam or the airport, and transfer you to the train station for a safari journey to Morogoro Town. The train departs at 06:00 and arrives at 08:00, where you'll disembark at the SGR station.

Upon arrival, our driver will greet you and start the journey from the Morogoro SGR (Standard Gauge Railway) Station to Mikumi National Park, reaching there by approximately 09:30. After check-in, you'll embark on a guided game drive across the park, offering prime opportunities for animal sightings in a beautiful, scenic environment. The drive will continue until a lunch break at 13:00, after which you’ll resume the game drive until evening.

Mikumi Safari and Maasai Visit

After an breakfast in the early morning, you’ll set off for a full-day adventure through the vast wilderness of Mikumi National Park. With its sprawling savannah plains and diverse ecosystems, Mikumi is a gem for wildlife viewing, offering an extraordinary range of animals and birds to observe. As you embark on your game drive, you'll be captivated by the scenic landscape and the rich variety of animal life. The park is known for its open savannah plains, which allow you to easily spot wildlife in its natural habitat, a feature that makes Mikumi one of Tanzania's most accessible parks for spotting various species.

The day’s excitement doesn’t end with the game drive; once it concludes around 16:00, you’ll head off to experience the cultural heart of the region through a Maasai cultural tour. Guided by an experienced local, you’ll visit a Maasai village within the Mikumi area. The Maasai are one of East Africa’s most iconic ethnic groups, known for their deep connection to nature.

Your day begins with an early breakfast at Camp Bastian at 06:30, setting you up for a day of exploration and adventure. By 07:00, you’ll set out for the breathtaking Sanje Waterfalls in Udzungwa Mountains National Park, home to the highest waterfalls in Tanzania.

When you reach Sanje Waterfalls, you’ll be rewarded with a truly stunning view: a 170-meter cascade tumbling down three tiers into crystal-clear plunge pools. You’ll have the chance to cool off with a swim in one of these refreshing pools, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the soothing sound of rushing water.

Following lunch at around 13:00, you’ll begin your journey back, departing from Udzungwa to Morogoro Town to catch the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train departing at 19:00. The three-hour drive from Udzungwa to Morogoro offers one last opportunity to soak in the scenic landscapes of Tanzania’s countryside as you reflect on the day’s adventures.
