Upon arrival in Fort Portal the tourism city of Uganda a city that is well known for it's hospitable batooro people and strategically located in a center for most tourism attraction site you will spend some time preparing for the adventure,
making sure your equipment and supplies are in order. Fitness: Hiking the Rwenzori Mountains requires a good level of fitness. It is important to train beforehand, especially for high altitude treks.
Permits: You will need a permit to hike in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. Permits can be obtained from the Uganda Wildlife Authority
Guides and Porters: It is recommended to hire a guide and a porter.
After a brief tour of Fort Portal
town, you will transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park headquarters at
Nyakalengija (1,646 meters) for registration. Here, you will meet your guide and porters,
who will provide a briefing on what to expect during the hike. You will spend the night at
a nearby lodge or camp, resting waiting for the days ahead.

From nyakalengija to nyabitaba Hut, where you expect the beginning of your hiking experience
The trekking officially begins today. The best time to hike the Rwenzori Mountains is during the dry season, which is from December to February and June to August. The weather is typically clear and dry during these months, making for ideal hiking conditions. Hiking the Rwenzori Mountains requires a good level of fitness. It is important to train beforehand, especially for high altitude treks. After breakfast, you will head out from Nyakalengija,
passing through dense tropical It is recommended to hire guide and porters to help you with the hiking. They can provide valuable information about the park and assists you with your luggage. The path takes you across the Mubuku River
and through fields of bamboo forests. You will begin to encounter wildlife such as
monkeys and various bird species as you ascend gradually. After about 5-7 hours of
trekking, you will arrive at Nyabitaba Hut, where you will rest for the night. From here,
you will catch your first glimpses of the Rwenzori peaks.

From nyabitaba hut, to john matte hut for more hiking marking the unforgettable experience
On this day, you will leave Nyabitaba Hut and trek through a more rugged landscape.
The trail leads through the Kurt Shafer Bridge over the Mubuku River before heading
through the bamboo zone into the open moorlands. As you ascend, the vegetation
changes, and the views become increasingly dramatic. The trail is rocky, and you will
traverse the Bujuku River before arriving at John Matte Hut after 6-7 hours of hiking. This is the final destination of the trek and is located at an elevation of 4,127 meters. John Matte Hut offers panoramic views of the Rwenzori Mountains and is a great place to acclimatize before attempting the summit of Margherita Peak. remember to put warm clothing, as temperatures can drop significantly at higher altitudes, especially at night.

overnight.

Transfer to bujuku hut, located near the bigo bog a unique high-altitude swamp
This day’s trek will take you deeper into the mountains, entering the alpine zone. You
will cross the Bigo Bog, which requires balancing on wooden boards and tackling rocky
terrain this is the reason why you are required to do a lot of exercises making sure you are fit. After navigating through the bog, you will ascend further, passing the beautiful
Lake Bujuku, which reflects the surrounding peaks.
As you move higher, the air becomes thinner, and the temperature drops. The trail
climbs steeply towards Bujuku Hut, which sits at the base of Mount Speke, Mount
Baker, and Mount Stanley. After about 5-7 hours of trekking, you will reach Bujuku Hut,
your resting place for the night.

BUjuku hut to elena hut for more experience
From Bujuku, climb steadily through more bogs and rocky terrain. The trail becomes
steep as you approach Elena Hut, which is perched on a rocky slope just below the
Stanley Glacier. This is one of the highest camps on the trek, and the altitude makes the
hike quite challenging.
Along the way, enjoy awe-inspiring views of Mount Baker, Mount Speke, and the
surrounding glaciers. The hike will take approximately 4-5 hours. You will spend the
night at Elena Hut, preparing for the ascent to Margherita Peak the following day if you
are opting for the summit.

Summit margherita peak and descend to kitandara hut
For those attempting the summit, you'll begin the day before dawn. The climb to
Margherita Peak is technical, requiring the use of crampons and ropes as you traverse
glaciers and steep rocky sections. The route takes you through the Stanley Plateau and
up to the summit of Margherita, the highest point in the Rwenzoris.
After reaching the peak, you'll descend back to Elena Hut and continue downwards to
Kitandara Hut, which is located near the stunning Kitandara Lakes. This is a long,
demanding day, taking about 8-12 hours depending on weather and conditions. Spend
a night at Kitandara hut.

Kitandara to Guy Yeoman hut (3450m) heding to the unforgetable experience
On this leg of the Rwenzori trek, you will descend from Kitandara, passing through
rocky terrain, bogs, and steep paths. The trek offers scenic views of lakes and the lush
green valley below. You will pass Fresh field Pass at 4280m before making a steep
descent to Bujuku Valley. This section can be challenging, especially if it has rained, as
the trails can become muddy and slippery.
As you descend, you'll experience the diverse plant life, including giant lobelias and
groundsels. You’ll reach the Guy Yeoman Hut at 3450m, which offers a fantastic resting
spot with beautiful views of the nearby waterfalls and the surrounding landscape. The
hut is equipped with basic facilities for a comfortable overnight stay.

Guy Yeoman hut to Nyakalengija back to Fort Portal after a tiresome and unforgettable adventures
On the final day of your Rwenzori trek, you will descend from Guy Yeoman Hut to
Nyakalengija. The trek covers a significant altitude drop and can be quite challenging
due to the steep and often muddy trails, especially after rain.
You will pass through bamboo forests, open moorland, and montane rainforests as you
make your way down. The terrain can be slippery, so watch your step. You also cross
several rivers using wooden bridges and enjoy the cascading waterfalls along the way.
The lush vegetation and wildlife in the lower regions add to the scenic beauty of the
descent.
