Today, embark on an exciting road trip through northern Tanzania, heading towards the unique Lake Natron. After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, you’ll begin the 4-hour drive, offering a stunning journey across Tanzania’s diverse landscapes. As you travel, the scenery transitions from lush greenery to arid, dusty terrain, providing a striking contrast. Along the way, you'll pass scattered Maasai villages, their traditional huts dotting the vast horizon.
As you venture further north, the remnants of ancient volcanoes, including the active Ol Doinyo Lengai—‘Mountain of God’ in the Maasai language—begin to rise majestically around you. Upon reaching Lake Natron, you may even catch a glimpse of the volcanic smoke drifting into the sky.

Flamingo watch - Arusha
This morning, lace up your walking shoes for an unforgettable experience as a Maasai guide leads you on a scenic walk around the shores of Lake Natron in search of the iconic lesser flamingos. Lake Natron is a vital breeding ground for these stunning birds, with up to 2.5 million flamingos flocking to the lake during the breeding season, which runs from September to April, with the peak between October and early December.
While the harsh, alkaline environment supports thriving flamingo populations, survival is tough for most other species. Nevertheless, the lake's unique conditions create a haven for a variety of bird species, making it a birdwatcher's paradise.
After your morning adventure, you’ll check out of the lodge, packed lunch in hand, and begin your journey back. Your heart—and your camera—will be filled with cherished memories of this incredible safari experience, bringing your adventure full circle.
