The park takes its name from the Tarangire River, which winds through its landscape and serves as a vital lifeline for wildlife, especially during the dry season (June to November). During this time, Tarangire rivals the Serengeti in its concentration of animals.
With its diverse ecosystems and the ever-flowing Tarangire River, the park is home to over 2,000 elephants and more than 500 bird species.
