Nairobi – Drive to Samburu National Reserve

Your safari adventure begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading north through Kenya's central highlands and past the slopes of Mt. Kenya. As the landscape gradually transforms from lush farmland to arid savannah, you’ll arrive at the dramatic and rugged Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch at your lodge or tented camp. After settling in and taking some time to relax, you’ll head out on your first game drive in the late afternoon. Samburu is known for its rare wildlife species collectively called the "Samburu Special Five"—the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and the long-necked gerenuk—as well as elephants, lions, leopards, and more. As the sun sets over the reserve, return to your camp or lodge for dinner and overnight, surrounded by the sounds of the wild.

Explore Samburu National Reserve

Wake up to the call of the wild and enjoy an early breakfast before heading out for a morning game drive, the best time to spot wildlife when animals are most active. The game drive takes you across the reserve’s dramatic landscape—semi-arid plains, rocky hills, and the life-giving Ewaso Nyiro River, where elephants and other wildlife often gather to drink and bathe. After a rewarding morning in the bush, return to the lodge for lunch and some downtime to rest or enjoy the views from your veranda. In the afternoon, set out for another game drive, exploring different areas of the reserve and increasing your chances of spotting elusive predators or watching herds of elephants cross the river. After an exciting day, return for dinner and a peaceful night under the Samburu stars.
