Upon arrival at Ivato Airport, you will be greeted by an English-speaking guide from MCC, who will escort you to your hotel in the upper town of Antananarivo. Known locally as ‘Tana,’ the city features fascinating traditional architecture and exhibits a stronger Indonesian influence compared to the rest of Madagascar. Maison Gallieni, a restored colonial mansion, blends modern and traditional décor seamlessly. Relax by the pool and enjoy stunning views over the city before dinner.

Day 2

Transfer to Morondava

Transfer to Morondava

Today, you will transfer to the airport for your Tsaradia flight to Morondava. On arrival, you will meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. Located in western Madagascar, Morondava lies on the delta of the river of the same name, near the Mozambique Channel. Once the centre of the Sakalava kingdom, Morondava is renowned for its intricately carved royal tombs, often adorned with detailed, sometimes erotic, carvings symbolising life and fertility. Spend the afternoon at leisure, or opt for a guided tour of the town. In the evening, take a short drive (about 20 km) to the Avenue of the Baobabs to witness a stunning sunset and capture one of Madagascar’s most iconic views.

Day 3

Transfer to Tsingy

Transfer to Tsingy

This morning, embark on an adventurous 12-hour journey to the Tsingy, covering 235 km by 4x4 vehicle. The bumpy red road offers a variety of wildlife sightings, especially for bird enthusiasts. Along the way, take in the diverse landscapes, including spiny forests and baobab trees. Stop at Belo for lunch around midday, after crossing the river by ferry, where you can observe daily life: people fishing, farming, and selling snacks to travellers. Arrive in Bekopaka by late afternoon, crossing another ferry before reaching your lodge.

Visit Manambolo Gorge

Visit Manambolo Gorge

Start your day with a visit to the Manambolo Gorge, home to striking rock formations. Travel by dugout canoe to see the Vazimba tribe tombs along the river. The Vazimba are believed to be Madagascar’s original inhabitants, characterised by their small stature, no taller than one metre. In the afternoon, explore the smaller Tsingy within the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park.

Exploring Grand Tsingy

Exploring Grand Tsingy

After breakfast, enjoy a full-day exploration of the “Grand Tsingy.” The adventure involves walking carefully over sharp limestone pinnacles, crossing a high rope bridge, and wandering through pockets of dry deciduous forest. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features 50-metre-high limestone peaks shaped over millions of years. The Tsingy is home to remarkable wildlife, including 11 species of lemurs (such as Verreaux's sifaka, Decken’s sifaka, and red-fronted brown lemurs), 103 bird species, 15 bat species, 22 amphibian species, and various reptiles.

After breakfast, begin the long drive back to Morondava, with a brief stop at the “Allée des baobabs” to enjoy a final breathtaking sunset. The Allée des Baobabs is one of Madagascar’s most iconic landmarks, featuring a striking avenue of centuries-old Grandidier’s baobab trees. Towering up to 30 metres high, these majestic trees line a dirt road near Morondava, creating a breathtaking and otherworldly landscape. Particularly enchanting at sunrise and sunset, the avenue offers incredible photo opportunities and a chance to witness the enduring beauty of Madagascar’s natural heritage.
