Antananarivo to Andasibe by road

After an early breakfast, set off with your guide for the lush rainforest haven of Andasibe, a five-hour drive east of the city. This enchanting park is home to two protected gems: the Perinet Special Reserve and Mantadia National Park. Perinet is renowned for its iconic Indri lemurs, the largest of their kind, whose haunting calls echo through the treetops.

The drive offers a vivid glimpse into Madagascar’s rural charm—vibrant rice paddies, redbrick homes, and roadside stalls brimming with fresh, seasonal produce. Upon arrival, check in and enjoy lunch at your hotel. Later, explore a private reserve managed by the local NGO Mitsinjo, which champions reforestation, conservation education, and even operates the country’s first amphibian breeding program. Mantadia National Park Tour

After breakfast, drive 1.5 hours to Mantadia National Park with a picnic lunch. Search for lemurs like the Indri, diademed sifaka, grey bamboo lemur, red-bellied lemur, and white ruffed lemur. The trails are more challenging, but the forest is taller, wilder, and less crowded than Perinet. Birdlife is rich, featuring the scaly ground roller, pitta-like ground roller, and red-breasted coua. A haven for naturalists, the park teems with rare mammals, reptiles, and birds. Enjoy a picnic by Rianasoa Waterfall before hiking back to the vehicle. Later, take a night walk to spot mouse lemurs, woolly lemurs, and fat-tailed dwarf lemurs.
