Day 2

Harare to Great Zimbabwe Ruins

After an early morning breakfast, we will explore the city of Harare and visit the Balancing Rocks before heading to Great Zimbabwe, located south of Harare. The Chiremba Balancing Rocks, situated just 13km (8mi) southeast of Harare off Chiremba Road, is an incredible sight. These magnificent natural formations consist of enormous boulders stacked on top of one another, creating a beautiful work of art.

Following our exploration of the rocks, we will depart from the capital and proceed to Great Zimbabwe in Masvingo. Our accommodation will be at Cleavers Lake View Resort, where we will check in, relax, and enjoy the lodge's stunning lake views and tranquil surroundings. The late afternoon will be your leisure time to unwind and take in the beauty of the area.

Let's explore the Great Zimbabwe, a medieval city in the southeastern hills of modern Zimbabwe, near Lake Mutirikwe and Masvingo. Established in the 4th century AD, it served as the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe from the 13th century. Great Zimbabwe is believed to have been a royal palace for the local monarch, functioning as the seat of political power. Its most notable feature is its impressive walls, some reaching a height of 11m (36ft).

In the mid-morning, we will depart from Great Zimbabwe and drive to Matobo National Park, situated south of Bulawayo, the second-largest city in Zimbabwe. The late afternoon will be at leisure, allowing you to enjoy the stunning landscape of the surrounding rock formations.

Matobo National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers a wealth of sights and experiences. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including rhinos. Its landscape is characterized by impressive granite boulders, known as kopjes, which create a stunning visual appeal. Additionally, visitors can explore ancient San rock art, visit the grave of Cecil John Rhodes, and enjoy breathtaking views from various lookout points. It is a full day filled with surprises!

Matobo National Park to Hwange National Park

Hwange National Park is the largest national park in Zimbabwe and is home to a diverse range of wildlife native to the region. Located in western Zimbabwe, near the border with Botswana, it offers an exciting opportunity for exploration. Visitors can look forward to witnessing numerous wildlife activities around the waterholes, particularly large herds of elephants coming to drink.

As Zimbabwe's largest national park, Hwange is also home to the Big Five—lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalo. Other sightings include giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, greater kudus and various other antelope species. There is even a chance to observe lions hunting elephants in their natural habitat!

Hwange National Park is also significant because it is part of the Kavango–Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, which spans five countries, emphasizing its importance for wildlife conservation and biodiversity.

The trip will continue to Victoria Falls, one of the world's wonders and the widest waterfall. Conclude your day with a relaxing sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. As you glide up and down the river, you may spot various wildlife along the way.

Experiencing Victoria Falls is a must-do adventure during your time in Africa. The memory of your first encounter with these majestic waterfalls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning 'the smoke that thunders,' is something you will never forget. It truly is an incredible sight!

Visit Victoria Falls in either the morning or afternoon. You can choose between a guided tour or a self-guided walk, allowing ample time to explore the various viewpoints. The edge of the falls can be reached through the cool, moist tunnels of the rainforest, which are always shrouded in fine spray. This enchanting forest is home to various exotic plants that thrive in the humidity. Concrete paths have been constructed to prevent visitors from trampling the lip of the gorge.

Enjoy your final dinner with us in the evening at the boma dinner drum show, which is one of the tour's highlights.
