Your journey begins from your Maputo Hotel (10h00) or the International Airport (MPM - 14h00) where you’ll be met and guided to our 4x4 vehicle for the scenic 120 km (about 2 hr) road transfer to the seaside village of Ponta do Ouro and the top rated Sky Island Resort.
On arrival at around 16h00 you'll check-in and be guided to your luxury Sea View safari tent (solo and couples only - no under 12’s. Family guests with children will stay in an equally impressive Meadow Chalet.
The Sea View units overlook the Ponta Do Ouro Marine Reserve beach. Each has a king-size bed, bathroom, fridge, coffee station, fan, and a deck area overlooking the Indian Ocean.
The open-plan Meadow Chalet has a fully equipped kitchenette, en-suite bathroom, a king bed and sleeper couch, TV, fan, private patio, braai, and outside shower,.
Your dinner is served in the restaurant (or your room) on a set menu basis with a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains, and 3 desserts, offering a delightful culinary journey.

Beach, Ocean, & Adventure
Awake to the sound of surf breaking across the pearly white beach. After coffee on your deck, order a sumptuous hot or cold breakfast selection.
Then able down to the swimming beach for a golden suntan. If you're feeling energetic, choose an activity, like archery, bush walking, fishing, scuba diving, or quad biking. However, Sky Island is better known for paragliding due to its unique launch site and optimal flying conditions. All activities are optional (at reasonable fees - not included).
At midday, take a refreshing swim in the resort pool, enjoy lunch at the restaurant (or your room, if preferred) and spend the rest of the afternoon on another activity or relaxing in the shade while reading a book.
Late afternoon is sundowner time at the resort bar (own expense - not included) and then dinner time at the restaurant (try a different selection off the set menu). Then do some star gazing from your private deck before retiring for another peaceful nights rest with ocean lullaby.

More Beach before the Bush
Of course, you'll be getting more beach time at your next destination but keep that for bush time. Ponta do Auro is renown for its paragliding and scuba diving, so give these adventure activities a try today.
The prime paragliding season spans from January to May, with March being the optimum month. During this time, you can expect an impressive 8 out of 10 days of optimal flying conditions. Picture yourself gliding through the skies, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Southern Mozambique's coastal landscape. The unique launch site, strategically positioned to face East, caters to pilots of all skill levels and tandem flights are also offered (not included).
For scuba diving, Ponta do Ouro offers uncrowded dive sites and clear ocean waters, so seeing a variety of sharks in one dive is almost guaranteed, from bull sharks, tiger sharks, hammerheads, black tip, and silvertip sharks. Whale sharks and manta rays also roam year-round in plankton-rich waters. (Diving is not included).

Transfer to Maputo Special Reserve
After breakfast you'll depart from Sky Island, leaving Ponta do Auro in a 4x4 vehicle for the 75 km bush and sand journey to the Futi Gate entrance of the Parque Nacional de Maputo (Maputo National Park). From there, you'll check-in at Ponta Membene Resort and be guided to your home for the next 4 nights, a luxurious Dune or Hilltop Chalet.
These 1 or 2 bedroom chalets have a king bed, dining and living area with single bed, an open-plan kitchen, and an outdoor shower and fire pit (braai) area.
The Dune Chalets are positioned on the lowest part of the coastal dune. From the west you get the sunset dimming through the forest over the wetland and from the east you get the cool sea breeze and the sound of the ocean. The Forest Chalets are positioned on the edge of the forest wetland, offering you an opportunity to experience nature close-up with indoor-outdoor living.
Settle in, relax or explore, then enjoy a 3-course lunch and dinner either at your chalet or in the restaurant.

Bush, Wildlife & Beach
Spend the next 3 days exploring the wildlife of the 1,040 km² Maputo Special Reserve. Fauna species include over 400 African bush elephants, birds (Kingfisher, Fish Eagle and many more), zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, buffalo, Nile crocodiles, hippos, and small bucks (red forest duiker, suni, reedbuck and steenbok). Activities can be booked at the tour/sightseeing desk (optional at extra costs).
If you would rather just relax, then the wild Mozambican coast at your feet invites you on kilometers of pristine beach, and the turquoise sea welcomes you to meet exceptional marine fauna and flora: swim with dolphins, contemplate the multi-colored coral reefs and their countless inhabitants, dive and meet whales and whale sharks. Leatherback and loggerhead turtles nest on the beaches between October and March.

Depart for Maputo
After breakfast on your last day, you'll check-out from Ponta Membene resort at around 10 am and be transported in a 4x4 vehicle for the 108 km (about 2.5 hr) journey back to Maputo.
