After a morning briefing and team introductions, we drive to Kilimanjaro Park’s Eastern Gate, Marangu, at 1,860m. Here, your guide will arrange permits and registration for search and rescue services. The walk to Mandara Hut (2,700m) begins through a rainforest, where rain showers are likely, so bring a raincoat.
On your first day at altitude, we strongly recommend:
Avoid caffeine and alcohol
Drink at least 4 liters of water throughout the day
Take Diamox to help with altitude sickness (consult your doctor)
Listen to your body and inform your guide if you feel unwell
Acclimatization discomfort, such as nausea and headaches, is common at night due to lower oxygen levels.
