After a hearty breakfast at your accommodation in Arusha, your private safari guide will pick you up and drive to Arusha National Park for an extraordinary day of adventure, serenity, and wildlife encounters. Start with a canoeing expedition on the tranquil Momella Lake, gliding across calm waters surrounded by stunning scenery, with views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. Keep an eye out for flamingos, hippos, and abundant birdlife. Then, embark on a guided walking safari with an armed park ranger through diverse landscapes, getting up close to giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and primates. Your Lion King Safari guide will pick you up from your accommodation after breakfast. This morning, you will drive to Tarangire National Park, which is approximately a two-and-a-half-hour journey on good tarmac roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, the only source of water for wildlife in the region during the dry season. Known for its large elephant herds, the park offers great opportunities to observe these magnificent animals congregating by the river. Additionally, you may encounter giraffes, bushbuck, and hartebeest, with various predators such as lions and leopards often in the vicinity. Tarangire is also home to the highest diversity of bird species anywhere on the planet. You will find ancient baobab trees throughout the park, some of which are believed to be over a thousand years old. A picnic lunch will be served at a designated site inside the park.

After your game drive, you will transit to your accommodation.

Day 4

After breakfast, you will drive to the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, there will be an opportunity to stop and take in the breathtaking views of the Ngorongoro Crater. Following this, you will travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti, entering from the south of the park.

The Serengeti is truly remarkable. It is renowned for its vast open grasslands, which provide excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing. While it is home to an abundance of animals, it is best known for the annual Great Migration. During this migration, large numbers of wildebeest, zebras, and antelope move in a consistent pattern, constantly searching for fresh grazing areas.

The migration can be observed throughout the year; you just need to know where to look!

This entire day is dedicated to exploring the vast Serengeti through thrilling game drives. You can enjoy an early morning and late afternoon game drive, returning to camp for a leisurely lunch, or opt for a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch in the heart of the park. Either way, this unforgettable day offers an immersive experience of the iconic landscapes and wildlife of the Serengeti.

After breakfast, enjoy a game drive in the Serengeti National Park, where you’ll have one last chance to witness its abundant wildlife, including lions, elephants, and zebras. As you drive towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, marvel at the stunning landscapes and scenic views along the way. Upon arrival, embark on a guided walking activity on the Ngorongoro Crater rim, where you'll explore the area’s unique flora and fauna while taking in panoramic views of the crater floor below.

The Ngorongoro Crater Rim hike is an exhilarating and scenic adventure, offering panoramic views of the crater floor and its surrounding landscapes. The hike typically begins at the edge of the crater, where you'll walk along the rim, which rises about 2,300 meters above sea level. As you walk, you'll be surrounded by stunning vistas of the lush highlands, verdant vegetation, and the vast crater floor below.

You will then head to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Early risers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the rising sun over the crater’s edge and, after a hearty breakfast, we rumble down the adventurous track into the crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site, one of the seven wonders of Africa, formed about three million years ago, is 610 m deep and covers roughly 260 square kilometres. Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25,000 ungulates, the crater offers the best game viewing of all the parks in Tanzania. In a matter of minutes, we will be able to see wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant, and some of the more than 500 bird species here. With a little bit of luck, we may catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass. After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch, we leave the crater in the afternoon to travel back to Karatu, again staying at one of our, hand-picked for quality, mid-range partner lodges.

The park is both narrow (one of the smallest in Africa) and dramatic, with the towering Great Rift Escarpment forming a breathtaking backdrop to the landscape. The park’s namesake, a shallow salt lake, expands and contracts with the seasons, attracting thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species. You may encounter baboons and elephants in the lush evergreen forest, and keep your eyes peeled for the famous tree-climbing lions that have made this park legendary. In addition to your game drive, you’ll enjoy a thrilling treetop walk, where you’ll explore the park from a bird’s-eye view, taking in the stunning scenery and wildlife from a unique perspective. After a full day of wildlife experiences, you’ll make the short drive to your accommodation in Karatu, ready to relax and reflect on an unforgettable day.
