Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you’ll drive into the cooler highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you approach Ngorongoro Crater, it appears as though you've stepped into a forgotten world. Hidden by the steep volcanic cliffs, this untouched wilderness boasts vast savannahs, scattered acacia woodlands, and shimmering lakes and swamps. The Crater was formed when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed in on itself about two to three million years ago, covering an area of 260 km. Renowned for its geological wonders, the Crater also serves as a natural sanctuary, home to some of the highest concentrations of large mammals on the African continent. As you descend into the Crater, you'll encounter large herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. It offers one of the best opportunities to spot the rare black rhino. Afterward, you’ll journey through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area on your way to the Serengeti, entering from the southern part of the park.

Each year, enormous herds of wildebeest, along with zebras and antelope, follow a continuous route in search of fresh grazing. The migration occurs throughout the year, and knowing where to look makes all the difference! The real question is where the best spots are to witness the animals at a particular time. It’s one of the narrowest parks in Africa, but its backdrop is stunning, with the Great Rift Escarpment towering over the western edge of the park. The park’s main feature is the shallow, saltwater lake that expands and contracts with the seasons, providing a home for thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other species. You may also encounter baboons and elephants in the dense evergreen forest, and keep an eye out for the famous tree-climbing lions that have gained renown across Africa.

You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch within the park, and after your game drive, you’ll say goodbye to your guide. You’ll be dropped off at your preferred location, such as Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport. We hope you’ve had a memorable adventure with Gowitos Safaris and Holidays.
