4-Day Mount Kenya Trek Chogoria out Sirimon Route

Nairobi - Chogoria Gate - Lake Ellis Campsite

Duration: 3hrs
Leave from your pick up hotel in Nairobion an early morning and drive via the great northern highway arriving Chogoria town in 4 hours. It is from this place you will meet the rest of your climbing crew (porters) and proceed with the driving through thick rain forest for about 1 hour. Check in the park and all the formalities involved, have lunch and start trekking through rush forests passing the magnificent Nithi waterfalls proceeding to lake Ellis.

Lake Ellis Campsite - Mintos Campsite

Hiking Distance: 12Kms
Duration: 5Hrs
After having breakfast, leave the camp trekking along a single trail through alpine and moorland vegetation. The trek between the two camps is a no water fetching point, ensure you have enough water about 2 litres from Nithi river. Lunch will have been packed for you. While at Mintos campsite, you will explore around the camp to the temple and magnificent gorges valley views and that of lake Michaelson.

Mintos Campsite - Point Lenana - Old Moses Campsite

Hiking Distance: 24Km
Duration: 15hrs
Predawn attempt of the summit starts at 0300hrs and you hike for about three hours up to point Lenana (4,985m), the hiker’s summit, arriving there for the African sunrise. Descend Shipton`s camp for breakfast.
After breakfast, begin a 5-hour descent via Mackinder`s valley to the Old Moses camp. ( 3,300m) The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the moorlands before reaching the camp.

Old Moses Campsite - Sirimon Gate - Nairobi

Hiking Distance: 8Kms
Duration: 2Hrs
On this final day, leave the camp trekking down on a paved road through the rush forest with high chances of spotting wild animals reaching Sirimon park gate in 2 hours. Check out the park and board on your waiting vehicle back to Nairobi or onward destination.
