Mkomazi national park

We will pick you from Kilimanjaro Airport in the morning and drive to Mkomazi National Park. This Tanzania Park, Mkomazi is located 6km from Same town, It was established as a National Park in 2008. Formerly was a Game Reserve since 1951, it covering an area of 3,245square km. Expect to spot animals like giraffe, oryx, gerenuk, hartebeest, lesser kudu, eland, impala and grants gazelle share the park with elephants, buffalo and numerous predators including lions, leopards and cheetah.

Mkomazi National Park lies along the edge of a semi-arid savanna arc that stretches into Kenya’s Tsavo West, falling into the Mkomazi-Tsavo Ecosystem, which is the second largest trans-boundry ecosystem in East Africa after the famous Serengeti – Maasai Mara. Umba River on Mkomazi’s south eastern border and other water holes are the main source of water in this park.

Later in the evening you will drive back to your camp.

Mkomazi national park to Kilimanjaro airport

Mkomazi National park favors bird lovers, over 450 bird species has been recorded in the park, an Early morning with our driver guide will offer an opportunity to spot rare bird species like martial Eagles, violet wood- hoopoe among commonly seen in large number like Ostrich, long crested eagles, doves, hornbills, weavers and guinea-fowl. You will also spot wild dogs during your your game drive.

Late Morning depart for Rhino Sanctuary visit, the park is the breeding ground for black rhino and a small area has been protected to keep the rhino within the park. This will take an hour before going back to the camp for hot lunch.
Afternoon depart for game drive with a hoping to come across the Africa wild dogs if could not see the previous day on the way to exit gate for departure to Zanzibar.
