In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive through the park, often called the 'Elephant Playground,' where you may encounter herds of up to 300 elephants. During the dry season, Tarangire offers high animal density, with buffalos, lions, wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles among the highlights. The marshy shores of Lake Burungi attract a variety of bird species, including giant kingfishers, hoopoes, and the charming white-bellied go-away bird. Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater

Before your journey home, the Ngorongoro Crater awaits, often hailed as one of the world’s natural wonders, and your early morning game drive will reveal exactly why.

First, there’s the spectacular volcanic caldera, the largest of its kind in the world, offering a breathtaking landscape of grasslands, forests, and swamps. Second, the permanent water sources within the crater support over 25,000 large mammals. This is where you’ll encounter the very animals you came to see on safari—elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals, hippos, waterbucks, baboons, and even the rare black rhino.

Sharing this extraordinary space with wildlife are the Maasai, who graze their cattle in this conservation area, which has been protected since 1956 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978. The unique coexistence of humans and animals in Ngorongoro makes it truly one-of-a-kind. Your driver-guide will be happy to share more about this remarkable harmony.
