Day 1-2

Namibia Central Plateau- Waterberg

Namibia Central Plateau- Waterberg

Your guide will pick you up either from the airport or accommodation in Windhoek. We will drive to Waterberg Plateau Park. In the afternoon, we will embark on a nature hike up the Waterberg Plateau with some incredible views up the mountain. On the second day, we will embark on morning and afternoon game drives. The park is on a plateau of compacted sandstone that was formed about 180 million years ago and is the remnant of a much larger plateau that once covered the whole area. This park has become an integral part of some conservation efforts. There has been relocation of endangered species including white rhino, roan and sable antelopes. These have added to game originally found that ranges from giraffe, kudu, leopard, brown hyaena, cheetah among others. Over 200 species of birds have been recorded and more spectacular are the Verreaux's (Black) Eagles, and Namibia's only breeding colony of Cape Vultures. Let us enjoy rare wildlife and birds around here during our 2-night stay.

Eastern Etosha National Park

After breakfast, we will drive to the Eastern part of Etosha National Park. We will spend 2 days here embarking on morning and afternoon game drives. This part of the park has relatively higher rainfall compared to the other parts, hence has natural waterholes which differ in both appearance and geology in form of artesian, water-level and contact springs. Mammals include huge herds of zebra, springbok, blue wildebeest, black-faced impalas among other antelopes. This implies the subsequent predators including lions, leopard, cheetah, spotted and brown hyaenas are not too far away. Over 340 birds have been recorded, including uncommon members of the hawk and vulture families.

Today, we have a full day game drive driving from the eastern side to the southern side of the park. Our accommodation is outside the park closer to our next destination. After an early morning start, we will make our way to Okonjima Nature Reserve, which is the home to the AfriCat Foundation. Founded in 1993 and lying in Namibia's central Plateau, the AfriCat Foundation is primarily dedicated to conservation of large carnivores. The Foundation lies on a 22000-hectare Okonjima Private Game Reserve. Before lunch, you will visit the center and learn more about Namibia’s carnivores and their fight for survival and the Human-Wildlife Conflict challenges that face both man and carnivore. Both Okonjima and AfriCat are dedicated to creating conservation awareness through environmental education at all ages and levels, rehabilitation and reintroduction programmes, and conducts constructive wildlife research. We get a chance to see the ambassador Cheetahs during this tour.
