From here, you will begin your trek through the lush, vibrant rainforest. The path is relatively easy with gradual inclines, allowing you to acclimatize while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding jungle. The rainforest is rich in biodiversity, and you may spot monkeys, birds, and other wildlife along the way. Today, the trek will take you through the forest, and then the landscape gradually changes to heath and moorland as you ascend. The altitude will start to have a more noticeable effect, and you will begin your acclimatization process. As you approach Shira Camp 1, you will be treated to stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s summit and the surrounding area. Day 3

Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2

Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2

The trek today takes you across the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on the planet. This day is critical for acclimatization, as you will be gaining altitude gradually. The trail offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s western slopes and the expansive landscape below. The path is relatively flat, but the increasing altitude may challenge your endurance. By the time you reach Shira Camp 2, you will be at an elevation where the air is thinner, and your body will continue adjusting. This camp is an ideal spot to rest and prepare for the more challenging sections ahead.

Day 4

Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp

Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp

Today’s hike is an important acclimatization day. You will trek towards Lava Tower (4,630m), a rock formation located high on Kilimanjaro. This is one of the highest points on your climb before descending to Barranco Camp (3,950m). The idea of this "climb high, sleep low" strategy is to help your body adjust to the altitude and reduce the chances of altitude sickness. The day’s trek offers dramatic landscapes, from rocky terrain to expansive views of the surrounding area. The descent to Barranco Camp will allow you to rest and re-energize for the next day’s ascent.

After navigating the wall, the trail becomes much gentler as you make your way down into the Karanga Valley. The valley offers a stunning view of the surrounding mountain and is a peaceful place to stop and reflect. This section is also critical for acclimatization, and you will feel the effects of the higher altitude. You’ll take your time today to adjust before reaching Karanga Camp for an overnight rest.

Barafu is located on the saddle between Mount Kibo and Mount Mawenzi, offering spectacular views of both peaks. The terrain will gradually change, and you’ll notice the thinning air, making it essential to conserve energy. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, take time to rest and prepare mentally for the final summit attempt. A hearty dinner will be served, and your guides will ensure you are ready for the challenging day ahead.
