When it comes to wildlife, there are tree-climbing lions, endangered Rothschild's giraffes, and flamingos in varying numbers on the lake. This is also one of the best parks in Kenya for seeing both black and white rhinos. It's a beautiful park as well, with amazing views from the Out of Africa Lookout (some scenes from the 1985 film of the same name were filmed here), as well as waterfalls, acacia woodlands and pretty lake panoramas. Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge has one of the best locations anywhere in Lake Nakuru National Park. It's hidden away in a quiet valley filled with trees, but the lake and all its wildlife possibilities are really close by. The lodge has good rooms with en suite bathrooms, and there are lots of lovely places where you can relax, such as in the swimming pool, on the elegant lodge terrace, or in the bar or restaurant.

You really do have so much to look forward to on your visit to the Northern Serengeti. The varied landscape of rolling hills, grasslands, light woodlands and the Mara River should be the scene for some fantastic animal encounters. Watch especially for elephants and big cats. And the safari trails up in the park's north are generally much quieter than they are elsewhere in the park.

You'll feel really close to nature when you stay at Sero Tented Camp. It's in wildlife-filled Seronera, close to the center of the Serengeti, and the tents feel like the safari tents of old with their canvas walls and floors and simple furnishings. You'll love lying in bed and listening to lions roaring or elephants feeding close by, and by day animals sometimes move through the camp. Dine under the stars and enjoy the warmest of welcomes every time you return to camp.

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro is a special place and the first time that you descend onto the crater floor is like no other safari experience in Africa. This is a world unto itself, one where you’ll encounter the crater’s 600-strong population of hyenas, as well as critically endangered black rhinos. You’ll also find elephants with larger-than-average tusks, and more than 50 lions living in the crater. But it’s the sheer beauty of Ngorongoro that will most likely live longest in your memory. From early morning, mist rises from the crater, revealing steep, forested walls, secret waterways where hippos wallow, and a world of abundant wildlife hidden away from the rest of the world. One of the best places to stay between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro, This Lodge helps you escape the busy roads and tourist trails of northern Tanzania. Tarangire National Park

Wherever you go in Tarangire National Park, you’ll come across the park’s famous and larger-than-life baobab trees and elephants. These are the twin elements that give this park so much personality. There is, of course, so much more. We don’t just mean the huge populations of wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, baboons, vervet monkeys and zebras. Or the rugged landscape of rocky hills and rivers, swamps and Savannah plains. You also have an excellent chance of seeing lions here – Tarangire is a real lion stronghold – and keep an eye out for leopards and cheetahs as well. In a wonderful location between Arusha National Park and Mt Kilimanjaro, Original Maasai Lodge is true to its name, with a real sense of local culture, from the staff (most of whom are Maasai) to the decor. Fine meals and a swimming pool are among the facilities, but it's the overwhelming sense of character here that you'll most enjoy. The rooms are a mix of stone, wood and thatch.
