After breakfast, begin your journey to Gondar, the Royal Capital of Ethiopia, founded in 1636 by Emperor Fassiladas. In the afternoon, participate in the vibrant Timket celebration, commemorating Christ’s baptism by St. John in the Jordan River. On this day, the tabots (replicas of the Ark of the Covenant) from each church are carried in procession to a nearby river, where the next day’s celebration will occur. Special tents are set up for each tabot, depicting the church’s saint. The ceremony features hymns, dances by priests, drumming, bell ringing, and trumpet playing. Overnight in Gondar.
