Departing from Moshi, a 3-hour drive will take you through welcoming mountainside villages to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. We will patiently wait for our permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for their journey. Enjoy the beautiful rainforest scenery and winding trails while your guide informs you about the local flora, fauna, and wildlife. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and slippery. We highly recommend wearing gaiters and using trekking poles here.

Day 2

After a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast, we emerge from the rainforest and continue on an ascending path. We leave the forest behind, and the trail climbs steadily with wide views that lead us to the rim of the Shira Plateau. Temperatures begin to drop as we gain elevation.

We explore the Shira Plateau for the day. It's a gentle walk east toward Kibo's glaciated peak, across the plateau, which leads to Shira II Camp located on moorland meadows by a stream. From there, we continue to Moir Hut, a little-used site at the base of the Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills, making this an excellent opportunity for acclimatization. The Shira Plateau is one of the highest plateaus on Earth.

Day 4

Although you end the day at nearly the same elevation as when you began, this day is important for acclimatization. From Shira Plateau, we continue east up a ridge, passing the junction toward the Kibo Peak before continuing southeast toward the Lava Tower, also known as the "Shark’s Tooth" (elev. 4650m / 15,250ft). Shortly after the tower, we come to a second junction leading to the Arrow Glacier. We then descend to Barranco Camp for the night.

Day 5

After breakfast, we continue on a steep ridge up the adventurous Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and the junction connecting to the Mweka Trail. This is one of the most impressive days to watch your crew display their power, agility, and strength as they effortlessly zip over this wall. Overnight at Karanga Camp.

Day 6

We continue our ascent toward Barafu Camp, where we complete the South Circuit. This section offers breathtaking views of the summit from many different angles. After arriving at Barafu Camp, we have an early dinner and rest in preparation for Summit Night. Overnight at Barafu Camp.

Day 7

Embarking from Barafu Base Camp to Uhuru Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro is the climactic leg of the journey. The trek begins at midnight, allowing climbers to reach the summit at sunrise. The route ascends through rugged terrain and icy paths, demanding stamina and determination. Upon reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views and a sense of immense achievement.
After soaking in the sunrise and capturing memories, the descent begins, retracing steps back to Barafu Base Camp for a brief rest. The journey continues downhill to Mweka Camp, a lower altitude campsite nestled in the lush rainforest. This final stretch provides a chance to reflect on the incredible adventure and the diverse landscapes experienced along the way. It's a challenging yet unforgettable trek that encapsulates the essence of Kilimanjaro's allure.

Day 8

After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of appreciation and team bonding with your crew, it’s time to say goodbye. We continue the descent to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. As the weather becomes significantly warmer, the terrain is wet, muddy, and steep. We highly recommend gaiters and trekking poles.
From the gate, a vehicle will meet you at Mweka Village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (about 30 minutes). Enjoy a long-overdue hot shower, dinner, and celebrations!
