In the morning, you’ll take a flight from Addis Ababa to Semera, the gateway to the Danakil Depression. From Semera, drive to Hamedela, passing through the vast, arid landscapes of the Afar Region. First, visit Ragad, a salt mining area where local workers extract salt from the earth and transport it via camel. This is an excellent opportunity to see traditional salt harvesting methods in action. Continue on to Dallol, where you will witness a surreal landscape shaped by volcanic activity, featuring colorful mineral formations and active hot springs. Afterward, visit Lake Assal, a salt lake that offers an otherworldly view. If time permits, enjoy the mesmerizing sunset at the lake before continuing your drive to Hamedela for an overnight stay.
