After breakfast and a briefing, you'll drive from Arusha to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (about a 1-hour journey), where you'll register before beginning your trek. The trail takes you through lush rainforest to the Mandara Huts. Along the way, you can take a side trip to Maundi Crater, offering stunning views of the surrounding area, including Northern Tanzania and Kenya. In the rainforest, you'll encounter towering eucalyptus trees, diverse birdlife, and Colobus monkeys.

Day 2

You’ll leave the rainforest behind and follow an ascending trail through the open moorlands to the Horombo Huts. Along the way, you'll be treated to stunning views of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo. Keep an eye out for giant lobelias and groundsels. As you gain altitude, you may begin to feel the effects of the higher elevation.

Today is dedicated to acclimatization at Horombo Hut, with the option to hike to the nearby Mawenzi Peak. You’ll spend the entire day at Horombo, allowing you time to rest and prepare for the journey ahead. If you choose not to trek, this day offers a valuable opportunity to adjust to the altitude.

Day 4

As you ascend, you'll pass the last watering point and make your way onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro, nestled between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. The landscape transitions from upper heathland to a barren "moonscape." After reaching your destination, you'll have dinner, rest, and prepare for the summit climb.

Day 5
Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut

The summit climb begins at midnight, where you'll ascend towards Gilman’s Point on the crater rim. From there, you'll continue upwards to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Expect breathtaking views throughout your climb, and don’t forget to capture the moment with a photo at the summit to share with loved ones. Afterward, you’ll descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing to the Horombo Huts.
The early hours of this climb will be in the dark, requiring headlamps or flashlights. It will be very cold until you begin your descent, so ensure you wear all your warm layers. This is the most challenging section of the trek, featuring numerous switchbacks. Remember to take it slow—“pole pole” (slowly, slowly)—and you’ll make it to the top!

Day 6

After breakfast, you’ll begin your steady descent through the moorland, heading towards Mandara Hut. Continuing on, you'll navigate a lush forest path down to the Marangu Gate of the national park. The lower elevations can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended for better support. At this point, shorts and T-shirts will likely suffice, though it's always a good idea to keep your rain gear and warmer clothing within reach.
A Kilimanjaro On Foot vehicle will meet you at Marangu Gate to drive you back to your hotel in Arusha, approximately a 3-hour journey.
