Kibo Hut to Summit to Horombo Hut

The summit climb begins at midnight, where you'll ascend towards Gilman’s Point on the crater rim. From there, you'll continue upwards to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Expect breathtaking views throughout your climb, and don’t forget to capture the moment with a photo at the summit to share with loved ones. Afterward, you’ll descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing to the Horombo Huts.

The early hours of this climb will be in the dark, requiring headlamps or flashlights. It will be very cold until you begin your descent, so ensure you wear all your warm layers. This is the most challenging section of the trek, featuring numerous switchbacks. Remember to take it slow—“pole pole” (slowly, slowly)—and you’ll make it to the top!

Day 6

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Arusha/Moshi

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Arusha/Moshi

After breakfast, you’ll begin your steady descent through the moorland, heading towards Mandara Hut. Continuing on, you'll navigate a lush forest path down to the Marangu Gate of the national park. The lower elevations can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended for better support. At this point, shorts and T-shirts will likely suffice, though it's always a good idea to keep your rain gear and warmer clothing within reach.

A Kilimanjaro On Foot vehicle will meet you at Marangu Gate to drive you back to your hotel in Arusha, approximately a 3-hour journey.
