Day 1

Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Following a briefing with our climb managers the day before, your guide and mountain support crew will meet you at the hotel in the morning for another briefing. Afterward, you'll drive for approximately 3-4 hours to Kilimanjaro National Park's western entrance, Londorossi Gate (2,200 m). After completing the necessary paperwork and registering with the search and rescue service, the group will begin trekking toward the first camp on the route: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,780 m). As you'll be walking through the rainforest, raincoats are especially important today. When you reach the camp, our professional mountain crew will have everything ready, setting up tents and preparing lunch. Afterward, the group will embark on an acclimatization hike toward Shira 1 Camp, gaining 300 meters in elevation before returning to Mti Mkubwa Camp for a hot dinner.

After an early wake-up and breakfast, you’ll begin your gradual trek upwards to 3,500 meters. At this point, you'll be treated to stunning views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Volcano for the first time. The trek from Mti Mkubwa Camp to the second high-altitude camp, Shira 1 Camp (3,505m), is relatively easy and takes about 5-6 hours. This gradual ascent is perfect for acclimatization, which is essential for a successful trek. Once you reach the camp, your expert team will prepare lunch for you. You’ll have the opportunity to relax in your tent or explore the surrounding area.

Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Leaving Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m), you'll enjoy a light trek toward the second high-altitude camp, Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m). This section of the trek is easy, allowing you to take in spectacular views of Africa, along with Kilimanjaro’s unique flora and the surrounding landscapes. Shira 2 Camp is an ideal spot to see Mount Meru (the fifth-highest peak in Africa), weather permitting. Upon arrival, you’ll have lunch and take a well-deserved two-hour rest. Afterward, you’ll go on an acclimatization hike toward Lava Tower Camp, gaining an additional 300 meters in altitude.

Shira 2 Camp to the Lava Tower and Descent to Barranco Camp

After breakfast, you'll depart from Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) and begin your journey to the pivotal point of the trek: Lava Tower (4,630 m). This section involves several ascents and descents, culminating at a camp situated above 4,600 meters. While it may be challenging and you could feel some discomfort, spending 1-2 hours here is essential for proper acclimatization, which is why lunch will be served at Lava Tower.

Afterward, you'll descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m), where you’ll be greeted by the awe-inspiring Barranco Wall. Its sheer size and steepness make it one of Kilimanjaro’s most striking features. You’ll be tackling this wall the following day, but don't worry—it has a relatively easy hiking route.

The hike up the gorge wall is relatively easy and will take around an hour. Once at the top, take a moment to rest and enjoy the stunning views, including the majestic Kibo volcano.

Next, you’ll continue on a more challenging hike toward Karanga Camp, where you’ll encounter several ascents and descents along the way. But don’t worry – our guides are experienced in setting a pace that works for the group. Upon arrival at the camp, you’ll enjoy a warm lunch. After a couple of hours of rest, you’ll embark on an acclimatization hike towards Barafu Camp, gaining about 200 meters in elevation before returning to Karanga Camp.

After regaining strength, you have to complete an acclimatization hike towards the intermediate Kosovo Summit Camp (4,800 m) and then back to Barafu Camp, where you will be served a hot dinner. It is better to spend the remainder of the day resting and sleeping before night summiting.

Ascent to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Millennium Camp

You’ll depart from Barafu Camp (4,640 m) in the early hours of the night to begin your summit push to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). While the climb itself is technically straightforward, the biggest challenge is the high altitude. Each pair of climbers will be paired with a personal guide who will monitor your physical and mental condition throughout the ascent.

Upon reaching Uhuru Peak, take a moment to celebrate your accomplishment and, if you wish, explore the nearby glaciers. Afterward, you’ll begin your descent back to Barafu Camp, where you’ll take a well-deserved 2-hour rest before continuing your descent to Millennium Camp (3,820 m).

After your descent the whole group will gather to congratulate you, followed by offering you a chance to share your opinions on the climb in the guestbook.
