Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Hut

You'll begin your summit ascent in the midnight, making your way between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Heading north-west, you'll climb through the steep, loose scree toward Stella Point on the crater rim. This section is the toughest both mentally and physically, but the reward is worth it.

Once you reach Stella Point (18,600 ft), take a brief rest and prepare for a breathtaking sunrise, weather permitting. From here, you'll continue for another hour through the snow-covered path to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, you will stand at the highest point in Africa, feeling a sense of achievement like no other.

After taking in the incredible views, you will descend back to Mweka Hut Campsite, passing Barafu for a lunch break. The descent will require caution due to the loose gravel, so make sure to use gaiters and trekking poles. Later that evening, you'll enjoy your final dinner on the mountain and get a well-deserved rest before completing the journey.
