The adventure begins with breakfast at your hotel, followed by a scenic drive to Londorossi Park Gate, approximately a 3-hour journey. Once at the park gate, you will transfer to a 4WD vehicle for the journey to the Lemosho Glades, marking the start of the trek. The day’s trek takes you through lush forest trails, where you may spot wildlife such as monkeys and birds. Your destination for the night is Mti Mkubwa Camp, situated at an elevation of 2650 meters. This is a relatively easy day, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude and the surroundings.

Day 2
Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

After breakfast, continue your trek, gradually ascending into the giant heather moorland zone. The trail will take you through a series of streams and gentle ascents, eventually reaching Shira 1 Camp at an elevation of 3500 meters. The Shira Plateau offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks, and the campsite is situated near a stream, making it an idyllic location to rest for the night. The day’s hike is moderate, offering a chance for gradual acclimatization.

Day 3
Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

Today’s trek is a gentle hike across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp, located in moorland meadows beside a stream. This day is ideal for acclimatization, as you will spend several hours hiking at a moderate pace, helping your body adjust to the increasing altitude. The hike offers panoramic views of the plateau and is perfect for photography. There will also be an option to take a short acclimatization hike in the area, providing even more time to adjust to the altitude.

Day 4
Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

Today’s hike starts with an ascent up a ridge towards Kibo Peak, passing the junction that leads towards the peak itself. The route then heads southeast towards the Lava Tower, also known as “Shark’s Tooth,” which stands at 4650 meters. This day’s hike is important for acclimatization, as you will gain significant elevation before descending to Barranco Camp at 4000 meters. Although you descend during the latter part of the day, the elevation gained earlier helps your body adjust to higher altitudes, improving your chances of success on summit day.

Day 5
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, you will begin the climb up the Barranco Wall, a short but steep section that offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. After reaching the top, continue along a ridge, passing through the Karanga Valley and eventually reaching Karanga Camp at an altitude of 4050 meters. The day’s trek is relatively short but steep, providing an excellent opportunity to acclimatize and enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s glaciers and peaks.

Day 6
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

The trek continues with a steady ascent towards Barafu Camp, located at 4700 meters. The South Circuit provides magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit from various angles, allowing trekkers to witness its majesty from different perspectives. Once at Barafu Camp, you’ll have the afternoon to rest and prepare for summit day. Ensure you eat well, hydrate, and get as much rest as possible before the challenging ascent to the top.

Day 7
Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

The summit day begins very early, around midnight to 2 a.m., with a challenging ascent through the Rebmann and Ratzel Glaciers. The climb involves navigating heavy scree as you make your way towards Stella Point on the crater rim. After a short rest, continue to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m/19,340ft), the highest point in Africa. Upon reaching the summit, you’ll have a brief moment to enjoy the incredible views and take photos before beginning your descent. The descent to Mweka Camp will be long, covering 13 kilometers, and will test your endurance as you navigate loose gravel and steep sections.

Day 8

The final day of the trek begins with a descent from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, where you’ll be greeted with your well-earned summit certificate. The descent takes you through a lush, forested area that can be muddy and slippery, so be prepared for the conditions. After completing the descent, a vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Moshi.
