Day 1

Arusha to Machame Camp

Arusha to Machame Camp

After breakfast, you’ll drive from Arusha to Machame Gate (about 2 hours). From there, you begin your ascent through the rainforest, following a winding trail up a ridge. The trail can be slippery, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. After a challenging but rewarding day, you’ll arrive at Machame Camp to rest and enjoy dinner.

Day 2

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

After breakfast, you leave the rainforest behind and continue up a steep rocky ridge towards Shira Camp. You’ll cross a valley and enjoy expansive views of the surrounding terrain. This part of the trek offers incredible views as you enter the moorland zone. After a few hours of trekking, you will arrive at Shira Camp.

Day 3

Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

From Shira Camp, continue towards the Lava Tower (4650m/15,250ft), also known as "Shark's Tooth." This part of the trek will give you views of the Kibo Peak. The climb to Lava Tower is crucial for acclimatization. After reaching the tower, you’ll descend towards Barranco Camp (4000m/13,000ft) where you’ll rest for the night. This day helps your body adjust to the high altitude.

Day 4

Today’s trek involves climbing the Barranco Wall, a steep section of the trail that will take you to Karanga Camp. The Wall is challenging but manageable with some scrambling, and from the top, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views. After reaching Karanga Camp, you will rest and prepare for the next leg of the journey.

On Day 5, you’ll continue your climb towards Barafu Camp, located at 4700m/15,350ft. Here you’ll complete the South Circuit, which offers magnificent views of Kilimanjaro's summit from various angles. Once you reach the camp, you’ll have the afternoon to rest and prepare for the final push to the summit.

Day 6

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp

You’ll begin your summit attempt early in the morning (around midnight or 2 am) from Barafu Camp, heading towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most physically and mentally challenging part of the trek. From Stella Point, it’s a 1-hour ascent to Uhuru Peak (5895m/19,340ft), the highest point in Africa! After a brief time at the summit, you’ll begin your descent to Mweka Camp, where you’ll rest and celebrate your achievement.
• Elevation: 4700m/15,350ft to 5895m/19,340ft, then descend to 3090m/10,150ft
• Distance: 5km/3mi up / 13km/8mi down
• Hiking Time: 5-7 hours up / 5-6 hours down
• Habitat: Stone scree, ice-capped summit.

Day 7

After breakfast, you’ll continue your descent to the Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. The lower section of the trek can be muddy, so be prepared with gaiters and trekking poles. A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.
