One of the park's most iconic phenomena is the Great Wildebeest Migration. Every October and November, over a million wildebeests and about 200,000 zebras journey south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains. Then, after the long rains in April, May, and June, they shift west and north. Serengeti is the epicenter of this legendary migration.
