Arrival in Addis Ababa

Arrive in Addis Ababa via Ethiopian Airlines. Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel for check-in. After some rest, we will embark on an afternoon city tour of the Ethiopian capital. The tour includes a visit to the Entoto Mountains, where you will be treated to a stunning panoramic view of Addis Ababa. We will also explore the National Museum, home to important cultural artifacts and ancient relics, including the famous fossilized remains of “Lucy.” Our final stop will be St. George Church, a beautiful Ethiopian Orthodox church with an impressive history and architecture.

Fly to Bahir Dar

After breakfast, take a morning flight to Bahir Dar, located on the shores of Lake Tana. Upon arrival, we will transfer you to your hotel for check-in. If time permits, enjoy a visit to Bezait Island, which offers a breathtaking view of Lake Tana and the famous Blue Nile River. In the afternoon, embark on a scenic boat trip of approximately 3 to 4 hours on Lake Tana. During the boat ride, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the ancient monasteries located on the lake’s islands, each with a rich history and beautiful frescoes.

Blue Nile Falls & Drive to Gonder

After breakfast, we will drive to the Blue Nile Falls, one of Ethiopia's most famous natural attractions. The falls, also known as Tis Issat (meaning "Water of Smoke"), are truly spectacular, and you’ll have plenty of time to take in the views and enjoy the surrounding scenery. After lunch in Bahir Dar, we will continue our journey with a scenic drive to Gonder, a historic city known as the "City of Castles." Upon arrival, check-in at your hotel.

Full Day in Gonder - Castles & Churches

Today will be a full day exploring the historic and architectural wonders of Gonder. We will start with a visit to the Royal Enclosure (Fasil Ghebbi), home to the impressive castles of former Ethiopian emperors. Next, we will visit Debre Birhan Selassie Church, known for its stunning murals depicting religious and historical scenes. You will also have the chance to see King Fasiladas’ Bath, an iconic site used for the Timkat (Epiphany) celebration, and the Empress Mentewab Palace. The afternoon will offer the opportunity to take in magnificent views of the Simien Mountains, which are visible from several of Gonder’s historical sites.

Drive to Axum

After breakfast, we will begin the scenic drive to Axum, one of the most important archaeological and historical sites in Ethiopia, considered the birthplace of the ancient Aksumite Kingdom. On the way, you will be treated to stunning vistas of the Simien Mountains. Upon arrival in Axum, check-in at your hotel and relax. The rest of the day is at leisure, with optional activities available depending on your preferences.

Today, we will explore Axum, which boasts over 3,000 years of history. We will visit the Stelae Park, home to towering ancient obelisks, some of which stand over 20 meters tall. We will also visit the Tomb of the Kings, Queen of Sheba’s Palace, and the Church of St. Mary of Zion, where legend holds that the Ark of the Covenant is kept, brought to Ethiopia by King Menelik I from Israel. The day's tour will offer fascinating insights into Ethiopia's ancient civilizations and religious heritage.

In the afternoon, continue your exploration of Lalibela's remaining rock-hewn churches. Each church is a unique architectural feat, and the stories behind their construction will deepen your appreciation for this incredible UNESCO World Heritage Site.
