Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Begin with a short city tour if time allows, including a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, local markets, or craft shops. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive north to Volcanoes National Park, located in the Virunga Mountains near the town of Musanze.

Enjoy spectacular views of Rwanda’s rolling hills, lush valleys, and volcanic landscapes along the way. Arrive at your mid-range lodge in the afternoon. Check in and unwind, or opt for an optional cultural visit to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about Rwandan traditions, dance, and local history. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay as you prepare for the gorilla encounter the next day.

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes NP – Return to Kigali

Rise early for breakfast, then drive to the park headquarters for a briefing from park rangers. You’ll be assigned to one of the habituated gorilla families and guided into the forest. The trek can range from 1 to 4 hours depending on the gorillas’ movements, but the reward is a magical one-hour encounter with these gentle giants—a truly humbling and unforgettable experience.

After the trek, return to the lodge for a quick refresh or head straight back to Kigali. Drop-off will be at your hotel or the airport, concluding your incredible 2-day gorilla safari in Rwanda.
