Nairobi to Samburu

Pick up on arrival at the airport at the latest 8 am, and drive to Samburu Game Reserve a semi-arid region excellent for photography.

Arrive at the Lions cave camp in time for lunch, Indulge in the hotel's swimming pool soaking the African sun, or enjoy an afternoon siesta. Grab a cup of coffee/ tea and snack at 4 pm as we embark on an afternoon game drive

The area is home to the famous Samburu people related “cousin” to the Maasai people who have retained their cultural tradition. Dinner and overnight at Lions cave Camp.

Samburu National Reserve

On this day you will be spend searching for the big five, the Samburu five and observing the vast
unspoiled scenery during morning and afternoon game viewing drive, watching crocodiles bask on
muddy riverbanks and velvet monkeys frolic in the late afternoon sun.
In addition, you will have a chance to interact with the Samburu People to learn about their culture.
Samburu is renowned for its rare species of fauna known as the ‘Samburu five’.
These five particular animals are usually only found north of the equator – the long necked gerenuk, the
reticulated giraffe which is characterized by its liver-colored geometric patches defined by narrow
white lines, the Grevy’s zebra which is smaller than the common zebra and looks more like a horse, the
oryx with black horizontal stripe running across its lower flank and the Somali ostrich males
which have blue-grey necks and thighs. Dinner
and overnight at Lions cave.
