Day 1
Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Your safari adventure will begin with an early morning drive through the scenic central highlands of Kenya. Along the way, stop briefly at the Equator marker for a photo opportunity and a quick demonstration of the Coriolis effect — a fun way to mark your crossing into the northern hemisphere.
The journey continues through picturesque landscapes, with rolling hills and expansive plains. Upon arrival at Samburu, check in at Samburu Sopa Lodge, where you’ll enjoy a hearty lunch.
After settling in, venture out for your first game drive. Samburu is famous for its “Special Five” — Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk — species found only in this region. Watch as elephants lumber across the dry riverbeds and big cats lounge under acacia trees.
As the sun sets, return to the lodge for a delicious dinner. Unwind under the starlit sky, listening to the sounds of the African wilderness.

After lunch, embark on another exciting game drive. You'll have an option to visit Buffalo Springs, a neighboring reserve with a contrasting landscape. The plains stretch out in golden hues, dotted with grazing animals and vibrant birdlife.
For a deeper cultural experience, you can visit a local Samburu village (Optional, at an extra cost). Engage with the Samburu people, known for their vibrant attire and traditional customs, and learn about their semi-nomadic lifestyle.
You'll return to the lodge for a hearty dinner and share stories of the day’s sightings around the campfire.

Spend the afternoon relaxing on the lodge’s observation deck, equipped with binoculars and cameras. Watch elephants, buffalo, and bushbucks as they gather for a drink — you might even catch sight of the elusive leopard.
Dinner is served as you enjoy the magical setting. The lodge often provides buzzers in rooms to wake guests when rare animals appear at the waterhole during the night — a truly unique experience.

Stop for a picnic lunch beside one of the park’s stunning waterfalls — Chania Falls or Karuru Falls — where you can enjoy the cool mist and serene surroundings.
The afternoon brings more exploration, traversing bamboo groves and vast moorlands. The landscape shifts dramatically, offering panoramic views of the Rift Valley below.
