Day 1

After arriving in Arusha, you’ll be driven to the Lemosho Gate where your trekking adventure begins. After registering at the gate, you will start the trek through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp. The path winds through dense vegetation with a variety of plants, and wildlife such as monkeys and birds may be spotted along the way. The trek is relatively easy, with a gradual ascent. Once at the camp, enjoy a hot meal and relax as you prepare for the days ahead.

Day 2
Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

On Day 2, you’ll leave the rainforest behind as you hike into the moorland zone. The landscape becomes more open, and the terrain is less dense than the previous day’s forest. The gradual ascent continues, and as you get higher, the air becomes thinner, making it essential to pace yourself and stay hydrated. The trail leads you to Shira 1 Camp, where you’ll set up camp. The views from here are already impressive, and you’ll enjoy a warm meal and rest as you continue to acclimatize.

Day 3
Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

This shorter day in terms of hiking but vital for acclimatization. You’ll trek across the Shira Plateau, an expansive area that offers incredible views of the surrounding peaks. The terrain is rugged and rocky, and the temperature can fluctuate due to the high altitude. As you approach Shira 2 Camp, the views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Shira Plateau are magnificent. Once at camp, you’ll have time to rest and allow your body to adapt to the altitude.

Day 4
Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

Today’s trek takes you through a variety of landscapes, from moorlands to alpine desert as you approach Barranco Camp. The journey involves a climb to the Lava Tower, a rock formation that rises high above the surrounding terrain. After the tower, the path leads to Barranco Camp, which is located in a valley below the Barranco Wall. The night at Barranco Camp provides stunning views of the surrounding valleys, and the camp offers a good place to rest before tackling the next day’s climb.

Day 5
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
After breakfast at Barranco Camp, the trek starts with the famous Barranco Wall climb. This steep section can be challenging but is not overly difficult and is made manageable by the use of natural handholds. After conquering the wall, the trail continues across alpine desert terrain. You’ll pass rock formations and see panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including Kibo Peak. You’ll reach Karanga Camp, where you’ll have time to rest, enjoy a meal, and prepare for the final push towards the summit.

Day 6
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
This is the shorter hiking day, which helps with acclimatization before the summit attempt. The route continues across the alpine desert to Barafu Camp, located on the southern side of the mountain. The camp offers some of the best views of the summit, and although you’ll arrive earlier in the day, it’s important to rest and conserve energy for the summit attempt that will begin in the early hours of the next day. Dinner will be served early, and you’ll try to get as much rest as possible before the midnight ascent.

Day 7
Summit– Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Summit– Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Summit day begins around midnight with a challenging ascent to Uhuru Peak. The first part of the climb will take you up a steep, icy trail, passing Gilman’s Point before continuing on to the summit. As the sun begins to rise, the panoramic views from Uhuru Peak are breathtaking, making every ounce of effort worthwhile. After celebrating your achievement, you will begin the descent, first back to Barafu Camp, then continuing down to Mweka Camp, where you’ll spend your final night on the mountain.
