Day 1

In the morning, you'll be picked up from your hotel or the airport and embark on a scenic 2.5 to 3-hour drive towards Arusha National Park. Along the way, keep an eye out for giraffes, buffaloes, and antelopes as you approach the trailhead.

Upon arrival at Momella Gate, your guides will take care of the entry permits, and the trek will begin towards Miriakamba Huts. An armed park ranger will accompany you for safety as you hike through open grasslands, offering more opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. After about two hours, you'll reach Maio Falls, a beautiful spot for a picnic and a chance to relax. As you continue, you'll pass through the famous "fig tree arch" before arriving at Miriakamba Huts, where you'll be treated to afternoon tea and snacks.

Day 2

After breakfast, you'll ascend wooden steps along a steep trail. As you gain altitude, the air becomes cooler, making the hike feel more manageable. Low-hanging clouds often create a misty, moody atmosphere in the rainforest. After about two hours of hiking uphill, you’ll reach “Mgongo wa Tembo” (Elephant Back) at 3,200m, a great spot for a well-deserved break. The landscape shifts from lush rainforest to open heather and moorland as you continue, arriving at Saddle Huts around midday.

At Saddle Huts, you’ll enjoy a warm meal before an early night, as your climb to the summit begins just after midnight.

Day 3

Saddle Hut (3570m) to Socialist Peak (4565m) to Miriakamba Hut (2514m)

At midnight, you'll begin your challenging ascent to Socialist Peak, guided by headlamps as you make your way through the bushland toward Rhino Point (3,821m). The trail becomes steeper as you approach Rhino and Cobra Points, so be prepared for a strenuous climb. After 4 to 5 hours of steady trekking, you'll reach Socialist Peak just in time for the sunrise, offering stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. From the summit, you’ll also be able to take in the dramatic Mount Meru crater and its impressive ash cone.

After soaking in the breathtaking scenery, you'll descend to Saddle Huts to rest and enjoy hot soup and tea. Then, the hike continues as you descend further to Miriakamba Hut for the night.

Distance: 6 km from Saddle Huts to Socialist Peak, 19 km to Miriakamba Hut
Elevation: From 3,570m (Saddle Huts) to 4,565m (Socialist Peak), then descending to 2,514m (Miriakamba Hut)

Day 4

After a hearty breakfast, you'll begin your descent back to Momella Gate. Starting early in the morning provides excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, as animals are often more active during the cooler hours of the day. As you make your way through the lush rainforest and open grasslands, keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that calls this area home.

Upon reaching Momella Gate, Our team will be there to greet you and transport you back to your hotel in Arusha. The journey back takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, offering a relaxing end to your adventurous trek.
