Day 1

You will be picked up from the airport by a representative from Nyumbu Beyond Journeys safari guide. He/she will transfer you to your hotel. You will meet your driver/ guide tomorrow morning when he picks you up from your hotel.

You will stay in a nice lodge with beautiful views. The hotel has cozy safari style furnished rooms, equipped with, fridge, bar, telephone, fan, balcony, and a comfortable bathroom. You will relax as you wait for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2

Transfer to Kibale National Park

On this day, your driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast to start the journey to Kibale Forest National Park. The drive is through Uganda’s countryside passing lots of agricultural lands, homesteads, and roadside fruit and vegetable markets. Apart from these fascinating sights the only stopovers will be for the washrooms and stretching whenever you need to.

You will have lunch in the beautiful Fort Portal town with spectacular landscapes of the Rwenzori Mountains in the background and ever-green lawns. From here you will proceed to your lodge ready for chimpanzee trekking the next day.

Day 3

Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi Swamp Walk

Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi Swamp Walk

Spend the morning trekking the exuberant chimp families in Kibale forest, the Primate Capital of the World. Seeing the chimpanzees in their natural habitat, as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above is a thrilling experience. The forest quickly becomes alive with their noisy calls.

In the afternoon, go birding in the Bigodi Wetland. The reserve is abundant with butterflies, plants, animals and birds, including the elusive Red Colobus monkeys and Sitatunga antelope. Spectacular species including the Great Blue Turaco and rare Papyrus Gonolek will be of great interest to birders. Later in the evening return to the lodge for relaxing on the camp fire as we share the moments.

Optional activity
At an additional fee of only $70 US Dollar p.p. you do the chimpanzee habituation tracking instead of the regular chimpanzee tracking. This will take you 4 hours with the chimpanzees and you will be 100% sure to have a very close encounter with your closest relatives.

Day 4

Second Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi Community walk

Second Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi Community walk

After breakfast, go for a second chimpanzee trek in Kibale. Look out for the other wonderful primates, mammals and birds, including Olive Baboons, nocturnal Bus babies and the elusive Red Colobus monkey. The dense forest is famous for some of the world’s best birding, with a vast diversity of species including the Great Blue Turaco, the beautiful Papyrus Gonolek and the rare Green Breasted Pitta.

Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon visit the nearby Bigodi community to learn on the rural Ugandan cultural dynamics from basket weaving to local coffee experience for our sustainable cause to support host communities.

Day 5

Depart for Kyambura Gorge Lodge and Queen Elizabeth National Park. Drive through the park on the way to the lodge and look for lions, leopard, elephants, buffaloes and large herds of Uganda kobs.

In the afternoon you will take a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel which joins Lake George and Lake Albert. Here, you will see a lot of hippos (more than you can possibly imagine) as well as a variety of other animals which come to the waterhole to drink or bathe. You can expect to see buffaloes, crocodiles, bathing elephants, and a wide range of beautiful birds. This will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your tour. After the boat safari, you drive back to the lodge through the park.

Enjoy an early breakfast and set out for a morning game drive. The Kasenyi plains are excellent for sighting lions, leopard, elephant and buffalo. The Mweya peninsula is one of the best places to look for leopards, which live in the dense, scrubby thickets. Return to the lodge for lunch before we head out to the kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee trekking.

After lunch, drive from the lodge along the wonderful Fig Tree Trail and hike directly down into Kyambura Gorge, to search for the ‘Lost Chimpanzees of Kyambura’. The gorge is an extraordinary natural environment and forms a stark contrast to the surrounding grasslands. Here you can track one of our closest animal relatives: the chimpanzee. The walk is exciting and enchanting as you look for members of this mobile chimp group, often seen moving quickly between the canopy overhead as they search for food.

After a bush breakfast overlooking the park go for a second trek in the Kyambura Gorge. As well as search for the chimpanzees, explore the magical gorge and enjoy the surprises of a walking safari. Your guide will help you track footprints and understand about the diverse wildlife living in and around this unique natural habitat.

In the evening participate in an informal wildlife storytelling, sundowner at the twin lakes in kyambura with magical views of the swiping savannas with our safari guides and later enjoy the bush dinner by the camp fire.

After your breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and head for a morning game drive to see the tree-climbing lions. The chance of spotting these lions is about 70% though sometimes they are hard to spot (most especially when they are down in the grassland looking for prey). Should you get to spot them, the sight is picturesque and memorable.

Ishasha is one of only two places in the world where you can see tree-climbing lions together with Lake Manyara in Tanzania and they spend almost the whole day in tree branches resting from a day hunt and also escaping from the hot ground during the dry season.
Upon arrival in Bwindi, you will check in at your lodge for relaxation and overnight stay as you wait for Gorilla tracking the following day.

On this adventurous day, wake up on an early morning breakfast and report to Bwindi Park headquarters for a briefing with the leader tracker/ ranger guide before you start on your day activity. From here you will head into the montane forest for an encounter with the mountain gorillas.

Always watch out for their voices and listen to them grumble and the young as they swing from tree to tree. It is an extraordinary feeling as you look for these endangered species and finding them will depending on the last nesting location of the previous night. The time taken to track the gorillas can be range from 4 to 7 hours or beyond. Once you locate a gorilla group, you will be allowed only one hour in their presence. Return to the lodge for relaxation.

Later, you will have a community visit to the Batwa group that are the first people to live in these forest and still reside there regardless of the many years of civilization. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10

After breakfast, trek into the foothills of the Virunga mountains to see the endangered golden monkeys. Characterized by its bright golden body, cheeks and tail, with contrasting black limbs, crown and tail end, these playful primates are a pleasure to watch.

You will embark on the guided trekking of the golden monkeys which may last up to four hours. After trekking the monkeys, you will have lunch and relax and transfer to lake Bunyonyi, on arrival, you will embark on a boat ride on the lake around the islands of the lake. Lake Bunyonyi is a bird watching paradise. You will spot many birds around the lake. You will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation after.

After breakfast at the lodge, you will drive back to Kampala or Entebbe (Airport). As you pass through the equator, there will be a stop for the requisite snapshot and a bit of souvenir shopping. Accommodation for tonight is not inclusive in the program.
