Lake Manyara National Park is a small but diverse park. It is simultaneously grand (the Great Rift Escarpment looming over Lake Manyara's western edge) and small (this is one of Africa's most narrow parks).

A small Salt Lake is the park's name origin. Thousands of wading birds, such as flamingos and over 500 other species, make it their habitat. It covers a large area of the park and becomes inundated and parched with the changing seasons. Besides looking for the internationally renowned tree-climbing lions, you may encounter baboons and elephants within the park's thick evergreen forest.
