Day 1

Arusha (1400m) – Miriakamba Hut (2500m)

Arusha (1400m) – Miriakamba Hut (2500m)

After an early morning breakfast in Arusha (1400m), you will be picked up from your hotel and brought to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. At this time, the porters will organize and pack the belongings for the hike while you and your guide register with the Tanzania park. You will then begin your ascent in Arusha National Park. The first day of hiking is similar to a walking safari. You should expect to see giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffalo, and potentially elephants near the trail. Due to the high possibility of spotting wildlife, an armed ranger, hired through the national park, is required to hike with our team for the duration of the hike. As you continue hiking, you will pass the Ngarenanyuki River and a beautiful waterfall at the base of Mount Meru. Upon arriving at Miriakamba Hut (2500m), your chef will prepare a hot dinner and washing water for you. Enjoy the beautiful sunset and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, begin your ascent along the steep trail that climbs the ridge of the saddle. As you trek higher, keep an eye out for wildlife that may appear along the route. The trail offers stunning panoramic views of the Mount Meru Crater and the striking Ash Cone. Upon arrival at Saddle Hut Camp, you'll have the option to take an acclimatization hike to Little Mount Meru (3,820m) with your guide — a great way to prepare your body for the summit push. Dinner will be served early, allowing you to rest and recharge. Be sure to get to sleep by 7:00 PM, as your summit attempt begins at midnight.

Saddle Hut (3500m) – Summit Attempt (4566m) – Arusha (1400m)

Your guide will wake you at 12:30 AM with a hot cup of tea and biscuits to help you prepare for the final push to the summit. After getting ready and ensuring you have all necessary gear, you will begin your summit attempt at 1:30 AM under the glow of headlamps and a starlit sky.

The trail starts with a steep and steady ascent from Rhino Point (3800m) to Cobra Point (4350m). This section of the trail can be cold and windy, so proper layering is essential. As you climb higher, the terrain becomes more challenging with sections of loose rocks and volcanic scree.

At around sunrise, you will reach Socialist Peak (4565m)—the summit of Mount Meru. The reward for your effort is a breathtaking panoramic view of the Mount Meru Ash Cone far below in the crater and, on a clear morning, the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the clouds in the distance.

A vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Moshi, where you can relax, refresh, and reflect on your unforgettable summit experience.

Moshi To Londrossi Gate 2250 meter to Mti mkubwa Camp 2780 meter

Your adventure begins after an early breakfast at your hotel in Moshi. At around 8:00 AM, you’ll be picked up by your mountain crew and begin the three-hour scenic drive to Londorossi Gate, located on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. Along the way, you’ll pass through small villages, rolling hills, and local farms, giving you a glimpse of rural Tanzanian life.

Upon arrival at the gate (2,250m), your guide will take care of all the registration and entry formalities with the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities. This is also where porters organize their loads and final preparations are made. From here, you’ll continue by vehicle for another 15 kilometers on a rugged track, driving through a beautiful forest to the Lemosho trailhead.

At the trailhead, you’ll enjoy a hearty lunch while the crew finalizes the gear. Once everything is ready, you’ll begin your trek into the lush Montana forest, where the air is fresh and filled with the sounds of exotic birds and rustling leaves.

Mti Mkubwa Camp 2250 meter to Shira 1 Camp 3500 meter

After a warm breakfast in the heart of the forest, you'll begin your second day of trekking, departing from Big Tree Camp and continuing along a narrow trail that winds steadily uphill through the last stretch of dense rainforest.

As you gain altitude, you’ll notice a dramatic shift in your surroundings—the lush greenery begins to thin, and the vegetation transitions into moorland, a high-altitude ecosystem filled with giant Lobelias and Erica shrubs. The air becomes cooler and crisper, and the open landscape offers stunning views in all directions.

After approximately 4 to 5 hours of trekking, you will arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,610m), perched on the edge of the expansive plateau. This is your first true introduction to the dramatic volcanic landscapes of Kilimanjaro. On a clear afternoon, you’ll be treated to a spectacular view of Kibo’s snow-capped summit, rising above the distant horizon.

After enjoying a delicious hot breakfast, you’ll continue your trek across the Shira Plateau, one of the oldest and most scenic landscapes on Mount Kilimanjaro. Your path today leads you through Shira Ridge, a broad expanse characterized by rocky ground, low grasses, and hardy alpine shrubs. This section of the trail is less steep than the previous days, making for a more relaxed and enjoyable hike.

As you walk, take time to soak in the views—this part of the mountain offers some of the most breathtaking panoramas of the entire trek. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Great Rift Valley below and, behind you, the majestic silhouette of Mount Meru rising in the distance.

After about 4 to 5 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m), set against the dramatic backdrop of Kibo Peak, which now feels noticeably closer. Here, you’ll be welcomed with a warm drink, followed by a hearty hot dinner prepared by your mountain chef.

Shira 2 2900 meter to Lava Tower 4640 meter to Barranco Camp 3940 meter

After an energizing breakfast at Shira 2 Camp, you’ll begin one of the most important acclimatization days of your trek. Today’s route leads you gradually uphill through a boulder-strewn, semi-desert landscape, as you make your way toward the striking formation known as Lava Tower.

As you hike, the air becomes noticeably thinner and cooler. Far ahead, Kibo Peak—Kilimanjaro’s highest point—stands proudly in the distance, a constant and inspiring presence that keeps your goal in sight and spirits high.

You’ll arrive at Barranco Camp in the late afternoon, nestled beneath the towering Barranco Wall with sweeping views back across the valley. Here, you’ll be served a warm dinner, followed by a relaxing evening beneath the stars.

This day is often remembered as one of the most scenic and rewarding on the mountain—offering both a physical challenge and a crucial boost to your acclimatization journey.

Baranco Camp 3940 meter to Barafu Camp 4640 meter

After a nourishing breakfast and a stunning sunrise over the valley, you’ll begin one of the most exciting and memorable parts of the Lemosho Route: the climb up Barranco Wall.

The Barranco Wall, also nicknamed the "Breakfast Wall," is a steep and imposing rock face that rises sharply from the valley floor. Despite its dramatic appearance, no technical climbing skills are needed—but it does require the use of your hands in some sections to help pull yourself up and over boulders for better grip and stability.

After approximately 4 to 5 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035m), perched on a ridge with sweeping views of the mountain above and plains far below. Here, you’ll enjoy a hot lunch or dinner depending on your arrival time, and take the afternoon to rest, rehydrate, and prepare for the final stages of your ascent.

Barafu Camp 4600 m / 15091 ft – Stella point 5735 m / 18815 ft to Uhuru Peak 5895 m / 19340 ft

At midnight, you will rise and prepare for the summit, donning your summit gear with excitement and anticipation. A warm cup of tea or coffee, accompanied by biscuits, will fuel you for the challenge ahead, ensuring you're ready for the ascent.

The climb begins with a steady, north-westerly route through the rocky scree toward Stella Point. This will take approximately five hours, as you steadily make your way up the mountain. Upon reaching Stella Point, take a moment to rest, hydrate, and gather your strength before continuing the final leg of the journey.

After soaking in the experience, begin your descent, leaving the glistening glaciers and snow-capped peak behind. The first stop is Barafu Camp, where you’ll have time to rest and recover. Afterward, continue your journey down to Mweka Camp (3,080 meters), a 4-hour walk that will bring you closer to the comfort of lower altitudes and rest.
