We will pick you up from Kilimanjaro/Arusha Airport. Drive to your hotel in Arusha, check-in and then enjoy a drive around Arusha town (this drive depends on your arrival time). Arusha is a small town that is popular for its tourist destinations. You will overnight at Kundayo Serviced Apartment.

Arusha - Machame Camp
After breakfast we will transfer to the Machame Park Gate (5,950 ft/1,815 m). After registering with the park authority, we’ll begin our climb through the lush forest. We’ll continue on to some heath land before reaching Machame Camp (9,850 feet, 6-7 hours of walking), which sits just above the forest zone. The trek today is quite long, but not steep.

Machame Camp - Shira Camp
After breakfast we will ascend through beautiful heath land and alpine moorland with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro Peak. We begin up the steep track through a savanna of tall grasses and trees of Giant Heather and Erica. We’ll overnight at Shira Camp (12,600 feet, 5-6 hours of walking).

Shira Camp - Barranco Camp
After breakfast, ascend to Barranco Camp via the Lava Tower, where in the afternoon you will descend the steep track into the Great Barranco Valley and slowly ascend to Barranco Camp (12,950 feet, 5-6 hours of walking). Today and the following day will be your acclimatization period.

Barranco Camp - Karanga Valley Camp
The day will begin with a descent into the gorge, before we climb its eastern wall and enjoy views of Kilimanjaro’s ice fields, an equatorial anomaly. We will continue trekking until we reach our camp in the Karanga Valley (13,900 feet, 4-5 hours of walking).

Karanga Valley Camp - Bafaru Camp
Today we will trek up through the Karanga Valley. The trail will turn steadily uphill, following the lava ridge to the Barafu Camp. The temperature will also grow colder and the landscape sparser as we near the camp, which is set on a small, exposed flat area on a ridge (15,200 feet, 6-7 hours of walking). Barafu will act as a base camp from which you will make your summit attempt at midnight tonight.

Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak
Just after midnight we will start the challenging trek to the summit (12-17 hours of trekking). The temperatures range from just below freezing at midnight, to between -10 to 10 deg. F (-23 to -12 deg. C) just before dawn at the summit. Just before or at dawn, we will summit at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,340 feet. We’ll then descend back to Barafu Camp, resting for a while before continuing our descent to Mweka Camp (9,840 feet, 3-4 hours of walking).

Mweka Gate - Arusha
After breakfast we will make our final descent to the park gate, a walk of about three to four hours. After checking out of the park and saying goodbye to our guide and porters, we’ll drive to Arusha. This will conclude our safari.
