The Masai Mara National Reserve (also known as Masai Mara and by the locals as the Mara) is a large game reserve in Narok County, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Mara Region. It is named in honor of the Maasai people (the ancestral inhabitants of the area) and their description of the area when looked at from afar: Mara, which is Maa (Maasai language) for "spotted", an apt description for the circles of trees, scrub, savannah, and cloud shadows that mark the area.

This is a full day in Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. All meals and overnight stays will be at Mara Simba Lodge.

The true highlight here is the great migration, recognized as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World. To survive the dry months of July to September, some 1.7 million wildebeest migrate from the parched plains of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. Along with much smaller numbers of antelopes, buffalos, and zebra, they move to the more forgiving grasslands of the Masai Mara. In their wake come predators such as lions, hyenas, and cheetahs, for whom these giant herds are an easy source of prey.
