Johannesburg to Kruger National Park
We depart early in the morning from Johannesburg's O R Tambo Airport or any of the surrounding airport hotels. A scenic 5-hour drive brings us to Hazyview, near the entrance of Kruger National Park. Lunch in Hazyview is for your own account. Before entering the Kruger Park, we will transfer to an open-sided safari vehicle. Game viewing begins as soon as we enter the gates. On the way to our camp, you can expect to see a large variety of different animals and bird species. Common sightings include elephants, giraffe, zebra, hippopotamus, various antelope species, vervet monkeys, baboons, buffalo, and perhaps some of the apex predators like lion, leopard, hyena and African wild dog, if we're lucky. At the end of the afternoon, we will check in at our camp overlooking the Sabie River, where we spend the night. We normally use Skukuza or Lower Sabie camp, depending on season and availability. Dinner is included and is often enjoyed outside under the stars, weather permitting.

Safari in the Kruger National Park
Today is devoted to game viewing in the Kruger National Park, from the comfort of an open safari vehicle. We do not follow a fixed schedule and don't limit the duration of our game drives. A typical day would start early with coffee and tea, followed by a morning game drive before enjoying a hearty brunch (combined mid-morning breakfast and lunch). Return to camp to enjoy a quick siesta or cool down in the pool during the heat of the day. In the afternoon, we head out on another game drive. You will have a highly experienced, English-speaking driver-guide, who knows the bush well and understands what makes a safari special. Questions are welcome, and there will be plenty of opportunities for photography. Where possible we make comfort stops, perhaps at a scenic view point, picnic site, or game viewing hide. We return to camp at sunset for another delicious dinner. The standard parks board bungalows are rather basic, but it is possible to request an accommodation upgrade (extra cost).

Safari in the Kruger National Park
This is another day devoted to game viewing in the Kruger National Park from an open-sided safari vehicle. Because we do not take new clients onboard midway through a safari, as some other operators and most private lodges do, we can tailor the game drives to the group's needs and interests, and focus on finding animals we have not seen yet. Every day is a new adventure, and you never know what you might find around the next corner! The schedule is flexible and we adjust the game drive duration according to the wishes of our guests. Sometimes we might even stay out all day, if guests have the energy for it and wish to see more of the park.
As an optional extra, it is possible to book a day trip to the scenic Panorama Route on this day. This costs extra and it means you won't go on any game drives today if you choose this optional excursion. If this interests you, please note that this optional day tour to the Panorama Route must be booked and arranged in advance.

Kruger National Park to Johannesburg
We rise with the sun for a final early morning game drive in search of any animals that may have eluded us thus far. We'll enjoy brunch along the way or back at camp and exit the park late in the morning. At the gate, we'll transfer back to the air-conditioned minivan for the journey back to Johannesburg. We normally arrive in Johannesburg by the end of the afternoon.
Should you wish to see the Panorama Route after your Kruger Park safari, we recommend taking an extra night and day. You can ask us to arrange this as an optional extra. There are tour companies that include a rushed visit to one or two of the highlights along the Panorama Route as part of the journey back to Johannesburg. However, we've found this cuts into the morning's game viewing time, makes the day very long and does not do the Panorama Route justice.
The SANParks bungalow accommodation we use on this safari is rather basic. It is possible to upgrade to nicer accommodation on request (optional, at extra cost).
