Erindi Private Game Reserve is one of the best places in Namibia to see safari animals, as it is rich with wildlife that roams the classic southern African landscape. However, the only way to visit Erindi is by staying at its lodge, which is currently undergoing major renovations. The lodge is not taking any new bookings for 2024 and 2025, and day visitors are not allowed. Self-drive safaris are not possible here.

Wildlife
Erindi has a predator count that includes lion, leopard and cheetah, as well as spotted hyena and African wild dog. It is one of the best places in Namibia to see wild dog. Other highlights include elephant, giraffe, zebra, gemsbok, crocodile, hippo and lots of different antelope species. If you’re really lucky, you might also see aardvark, greater kudu and meerkat. Erindi has more than 300 recorded bird species.
Scenery
Erindi combines a surprising array of habitats within its boundaries, from grassland savannah dotted with waterholes to rocky mountains. The rocky outcrops not only preserve ancient rock art but also shelter rock-specialist species such as rock hyrax, klipspringer and numerous reptiles. Between the mountains and the grasslands, there is a mix of dense and light woodlands and scrublands.
Activities
Guided game drives are the main activity in Erindi. Self-guided or self-drive game drives are not permitted. Guided night drives and nature walks led by San Bushmen guides may also be possible.
Weather & Climate
The weather and climate of Erindi is similar to that of Windhoek, the capital city. More info:
Best Time To Visit
Erindi is best visited during the Dry season (May to October), particularly from June or July onward. Nights can be cold then, but you can expect clear skies and all trails should be open. These are also the best months for seeing animals as they gather close to the many waterholes. During the Wet season (November to April), trails can become muddy or impassable and the rains can otherwise dampen your enjoyment of the reserve. However, these are the best months for birding.
Getting There
Erindi Game Reserve is 180km/112mi north of the capital, Windhoek, or 125km/78mi south of the city of Otjiwarongo. The road is sealed, except for the final 40km/25mi, which is along a well-maintained gravel track. You can also fly into Erindi’s airstrip on a charter flight from Windhoek or elsewhere.
