A great variety of wildlife with good roads and tracks and expert guides

We stayed at Ongava Lodge just outside the park. This lodge has a floodlit waterhole where we saw white and black rhino, and the food and rooms and staff are top notch. In the concession we saw lions and rhino very close, and then with easy access to the main Etosha park, we saw most of the main mammals and birds on a couple of drives. Our guide Henock was so friendly knowledgeable and found us such a lot. The weather was perfect with cloudless skies and it was very hot.

Etosha a respectful park
Overall rating
5/5

What we appreciated in Etosha is first of all the respect for animals and wildlife. The park offers great opportunities to view animals while still respecting them... No off-road driving chasing after animals and upsetting their environment. We saw lions, giraffes, rhinos, zebras and many more while remaining at a respectful distance and not charging off after them as you will see in other tourist attractions parks. The camps are well thought and generally eco-friendly. It may be easier to get better sightings in other commercial parks but Etosha is not a zoo and has a real role in the support of native wildlife.

Etosha - Great First Visit
Overall rating
5/5

We visited Etosha at the beginning of July and for a first time Safari experience, it was a great one! We were on a self-drive tour and the park is incredible easy to navigate. You also do not need to venture far off of the main roads (or venture off them at all) in order to see some great wildlife. We stopped at about 3 water holes while cutting across the park from east to west and were never disappointed. We actually spent the longest amount of time pulled over on side side of the road watching an elephant pick a tree apart, piece by piece, for his lunch.
I understand you may see more variety and volume in some of the deltas (Botswana, etc...) but for an easy, introductory visit, I cannot recommend Etosha more.

Definitely not-to-be-missed while in Namibia!

Etosha National Park offers unequal wildlife sightings and it's a definite 'must-see' for visitors to Namibia! During my journeys through the park I experienced very close, yet undisturbed encounters with animals: a female leopard with two small cubs sunbathing in the middle of the main road in the early morning sun (caution to all who exceed speed limits in the park, this ca seriously endanger wildlife), springbok giving birth next to pride of lions, over 60 elephants crossing the road right in front of my car, huge male lion sunbathing on the main road, giraffe (unfortunately) struck by a lightning during rainy season, leopard with its kill on the tree right next to the road, mating lions' 3-days session at one of the waterholes and 16 lionesses and a male hunting in the plains of the park! Just to list a few incredible encounters! I highly recommend visit and if possible not less than 3 days stay at the park for one of the best wildlife experiences. Etosha has its own special magic...

if you have been in Khaudum or at the Kwando river, Etosha looks like a big zoo

Really a lot of animals that you can aproach easily. Sometimes a lot of tourist are around but there is a lot of place. You feel like in a television reportage!

Vast numbers of wildlife and exciting spectacles with a spectacular backdrop. A little crowded and doesnt quite allow you to get 'into the wild'.

Excellent game viewing. The waterhole in Okaukuejo is great especially at night.

Definitely the Wildlike experience in Namibia. There is no way to miss the lions, zebras, elephants and others. To really enjoy the place, stay in one of the 3 resorts (my favourite is Okaukuejo) because you will have the chance to experience the savana et the wildlife at night around a waterhole.
