Anthony has been travelling around Africa for more than a decade, and his love affair with Africa began on his first trip to Niger when he fell irretrievably in love with the people and landscapes of the Sahel and Sahara. Since then, he has returned many times, visiting every Sahelian and Saharan country as he seeks out stories about the people and wildlife of West and North Africa. In recent years he has broadened his horizons into more traditional wildlife haunts, exploring Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and South Africa. Often travelling in the company of local guides, he also loves nothing better than setting off on his own into the wilderness, especially in Southern Africa.
A writer and photographer, he writes guidebooks about Africa and elsewhere for Lonely Planet, including Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana & Namibia, Ethiopia, Madagascar, and Mauritius, Reunion & Seychelles, as well as writing and photographing for magazines and newspapers around the world, among them Travel Africa and Africa Geographic. He counts among his passions conservation, wildlife and indigenous peoples and above all he is drawn to the wild places of the earth. As such he loves nothing better than finding a remote corner of the Kalahari, Okavango Delta or Sahara and settling in for a night around the campfire under the stars. He is currently researching and writing a book on lions. When he’s not in Africa, Anthony divides his time between Madrid and Melbourne where he lives with his wife and two daughters.
