James is the senior author of the Lonely Planet, Rough Guides and Berlitz guides to South Africa and Cape Town. Magazine and TV assignments have taken him across Africa from the beaches of the Cape Peninsula to the heights of Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, with plenty of stops in parks and reserves along the way.
James lived in Cape Town for 12 years, and one thing he loved about his adopted home was the accessibility of its dramatic landscapes and wildlife viewing; whether you want to see lions in the Kalahari or soaring Drakensberg peaks, you can do it all in a 2WD car.
James runs travel writing day courses, and works as a journalist, copywriter and copyeditor when he’s not on the road.
