Mike Unwin is a prize-winning freelance writer and photographer, specialising in wildlife and travel, who spent eight years living and working in southern Africa. As author, his 40 published books include the Bradt Guide to Southern African Wildlife (now in its third edition), 'Around the World in 80 Birds' and 'A parliament of Owls'. As travel journalist, he writes regularly about African wildlife and safaris for The Telegraph, The Times, The Independent, Wanderlust, BBC Wildlife and Travel Africa, among many others, and was formerly editor of Travel Zambia magazine. Mike has spent much of his life exploring Africa's natural environments and important conservation areas and has, at different times, been group leader for the Swaziland Bird Club, regional recorder for the South Africa Frog Atlas Project and education volunteer for the South Luangwa Conservation Society. Among his awards are British Guild of Travel Writers Travel Writer of the Year 2013 and BBC Wildlife Magazine Travel Writer of the Year 2000. Now based in the UK, Mike's travels in pursuit of wildlife have taken him to every continent, and he returns to Africa whenever the opportunity arises.
