Hell’s Gate National Park is worth visiting throughout the year. Because wildlife watching is not the main attraction here, the weather has little impact upon what you’ll see. Instead, heavy rains can interfere with your activities during the main Wet season months (March, April and May).

56 Hell’s Gate Safaris
Best Time June to February (Best for general wildlife viewing and outdoor activities; little rain)
High Season The park is rarely crowded throughout the year (Naivasha gets busy with expats on school holidays, especially over Christmas; accommodation in Naivasha might be harder to book)
Low Season The park is little visited throughout the year (It rarely gets crowded)
Best Weather June to February (Little rainfall)
Worst Weather March to May (Heavy rainfall)

June to October Dry Season

  • Days are sunny and dry, but rarely hot
  • Dry days are excellent for walking, climbing and cycling
  • Grass is short and animals gather around water, making them easy to spot
  • It rarely gets crowded
  • There can be dust in the sky, reducing visibility

November to May Wet Season

  • Skies are generally clear of dust, the park is green and there are lots of flowers
  • Many newborn animals
  • Wildlife viewing is still fine in the Wet season
  • Bird watching is excellent with migratory birds present and raptors nesting on the cliffs
  • March to May can be very wet and rain can interfere with walking, climbing and cycling activities
