Kakamega Forest can be visited year-round. There is rain throughout the year, but usually this takes the form of brief but heavy storms. December to February are the driest months. June to August is an excellent time for bird watching, as many birds breed and display after the rains of April and May. August and September are the best months for butterflies. Migrant birds are present from November to April.

Best Time December to February and June to July (Less rain and good bird watching)
High Season Mid-December to March and July to October (The reserve never gets very busy)
