Kakamega Forest can be visited year-round. There is rain throughout the year, but usually this takes the form of brief but heavy storms. December to February are the driest months. June to July is an excellent time for bird watching, as many birds breed and display after the rains of April and May. August and September are the best months for butterflies. Migratory birds are present from November to April.

Best Time December to February and June to July (Less rain and good bird watching)

High Season Mid-December to March and July to October (The reserve never gets very busy)

Low Season April to June and November to mid-December (Low-season rates may apply)

Best Weather December to February (Less rainfall)

Worst Weather April and May (Wettest months)

December to February Drier Season

There is less rain and more sunshine
This is a good time for longer forest hikes
Roads are in good condition
There are many migrant birds from Europe and Asia
Not the best months to find some of the special forest birds
The only tourist accommodations might be fully booked

March to November Wet Season

Bird watching is excellent
Butterflies are abundant in August and September
It rains more, which might interfere with your activities
