Beautiful culture, fantastic animals!
Overall rating
5/5

My partner and I travelled to Kenya for our first ever safari and were not disappointed. Paul from Ways of Africa was very friendly and helpful to create a bespoke package for us to meet our travel needs and budget. The scenery was fabulous and we saw the big 5 animals. Our driver, Dan, was incredibly knowledgeable and professional. We really enjoyed spending so much time with him and learning about his culture. It was an amazing trip overall and would recommend Kenya and Ways of Africa for a safari holiday. Make sure you get an electronic visa before travelling!!

The people selling you the tour (agency) and driver running the actual tour (operator) are rarely the same company so:
- agencies do a great job presenting you a professional itinerary , however…
- communication is lacking between the agency and the operator
- different parties in the jeep may have different itineraries
- the driver is stuck having to reset customer expectations during the tour based on his schedule, which is frustrating

Best way to look out for yourself… have a detailed conversation with the driver, before leaving, on what you expect to happen and when. Where you are staying each night. List all activities and who is paying for each.

During my tour, logistics and schedules were a nightmare. However, all game drives and activities were run well. It was just frustrating having to figure things out during the tour.

a beginners guide to east africa
Overall rating
5/5

from the masai mara to amboseli, the south of kenya is a wildlife enthusiasts heaven. i had never been to east africa before and this was my first trip into the dark continent. i realised very quickly it was'nt going to be a matter of just buy a plane ticket, book a nairobi hotel and lob up. it would require a little more planning if i wanted to maximise my limited time there. so with this in mind i searched through lots of advertised safaris looking for the best balance to suit my needs. i came up with two separate safaris with two different safari companies, the first being masai mara which i chose to fly in and out of rather than waste the best part of two days driving in and out, also i was intrigued to be flying over the great rift valley and received an expansive view of the same so this turned out to be a great decision and while costing a little more meant that when i was collected from the airstrip inside the reserve the drive to the hotel/camp was effectively a game drive in itself. i then chose the drive in and out option for my second safari which was to amboseli as it is closer to nairobi and i wanted to experience the journey through the kenyan countryside as well as the nature reserves. while the many animals you will encounter are similar in both parks the habitats are vastly different, adding a dimension of flavour to my experience which i was not expecting, the masai mara is large open savanah while amboseli is mainly a large wetland being fed from the snows of kilimanjaro. both destinations displayed their unique charms gloriously. i did not deliberately choose to use use two different tour companies but as i had decided to do two separate safaris i researched them individually and i am happy to report that both tour providers were exemplary in both communication and organisation earning multiple five star reviews each. if you are a newbe to africa and looking for a safari then i can recommend kenya as a very well organised and hospitable destination for this activity.

Our recent 5-day private safari through Kenya’s Amboseli, Tsavo East, and Tsavo West National Parks was nothing short of spectacular. Despite traveling during the rainy season, our experience far exceeded expectations, thanks to the excellent planning, diverse wildlife encounters, and the unparalleled expertise of our guide, Joeffrey.

Our safari concluded with a scenic drive to Diani Beach, where the turquoise waters and pristine white sands provided the perfect ending to an action-packed adventure. The transition from Kenya’s wild landscapes to the serene coastline was seamless, and we truly appreciated the opportunity to unwind after days of thrilling game drives.

Joeffrey played a pivotal role in making this safari unforgettable. His patience, professionalism, and enthusiasm for wildlife were unmatched. Whether it was maneuvering through challenging roads, sharing in our excitement during wildlife sightings, or answering our endless questions about Kenya’s ecosystems, he went above and beyond to ensure a seamless experience.

Traveling during the rainy season added a unique twist to the safari. While some roads were muddy and required extra effort, the vibrant landscapes and plentiful wildlife were worth it. Seeing four of the Big Five and even cheetahs was an incredible accomplishment, especially given the seasonal challenges.

Ending the tour at Diani Beach was a stroke of genius. The chance to relax by the ocean after days of adventure perfectly balanced the trip, leaving us refreshed and fulfilled.

For anyone considering a safari in Kenya, I wholeheartedly recommend this itinerary. Amboseli, Tsavo East, and Tsavo West offer diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife, and unforgettable moments. Pairing the safari with a beach retreat in Diani is a brilliant way to experience the b

Trip of a Lifetime

We booked a four day three night safari and it was a breath taking experience. Everything was meticulously arranged and it really took the guess work out of figuring out every detail of our trip. Our guides were very knowledgeable, experienced, and helpful. We learned so much and were thoroughly entertained. The time of year we chose to go was also perfect. We didn’t witnesss the great migration, but we able to avoid crowds and still manage to see all the animals on our checklist and more. Our guides with their laser sharp vision were able to spot animals seemingly miles away that we couldn’t tell were there until we were closer. The hot air balloon portion of our tour was amazing. It felt like a very special experience being able to tour the lands from a different point of view and be treated to a wonderful breakfast on the savanna. What a view! Bonifus was our favorite guide and wealth of knowledge knew no bounds. 10/10 recommend and would absolutely do again.
