Khutse Game Reserve is a year-round destination. But the best time for wildlife viewing is from May to August when daytime temperatures are cooler, it rarely rains, there are numerous animals around, and the roads are in optimal condition. The wet months from December to March can also be good, when animals gather around the pans and migratory birds are present. At this time, however, roads can become very muddy.

Best Time December to March or May to August (Best wildlife viewing)
High Season July to October (The reserve never gets crowded)
Low Season November to June
Best Weather May to August (Less hot during the day with dry conditions)
Worst Weather January (It is hot and it can be rainy)

April to October Dry Season

  • Water in the pans in April and May can draw lots of animals
  • Roads are in decent condition, making it easier to drive in the park
  • It is cooler in the middle of the day from May to August
  • July to October is high season, and some lodges in the surrounding area charge high-season rates
  • It can get very dry and dusty, especially late in the season
