Like much of the Okavango Delta and neighboring Moremi Game Reserve, the Khwai Concession (which includes the NG18 and NG19 concessions) is a birding hot spot. More than 400 bird species are recorded in the general area. There are year-round populations of waders and other waterbirds. But from November to April, the birding goes to a whole new level as migrants arrive from Europe and North Africa in their many thousands. There are lots of opportunities to explore on foot or by boat through the rivers and channels, sometimes with an expert guide, which is ideal for birding.

Best Time for Bird Watching

The Khwai Concession is fantastic for birding throughout the year, but the best time is during the wetter months from November to April. This is when migratory birds arrive en masse in the Khwai and broader Okavango Delta area. April can be a good mix of high bird numbers and better conditions.
